How old were you when you went to your first gig.

  • It was in Nov 01 so I was a month away from being 17 and I took the bus into the nearest city (hour or so away) to see Wheatus with a friend from school :D I remember it being pretty good but my feet hurting from standing for ages and jumping about! The funny thing is I remember being a bit nervous about being away and having to get the bus after 10 when it finished (so young and naive!!) but I actually moved into the same city for uni less than a year later with nary a thought and was pretty street smart etc- in my memory it is like I was a LOT older by then!

I have vague memories of my Dad taking me to see some country & western show at Wembley Arena when I was about 10 years old ... But the first gig I attended by choice was when I was 15, Howard Jones at Nottingham. I went with a friend, her Mum drove us over and waited outside. I liked it so much that I went back the next year and saw him again :o

Age 15, 1976, Bay City Rollers at Cardiff Capitol. Parents did not approve as we went with a girl, Tracy, who we met at a Peter Powell event in Top Shop, Bath, and her dad took us and brought us home.

Best concert I ever went to :o:o

Saw the Les McKeown BCR's in Bristol December 2010 - had a fabby time then too!

I've never been to one but dd was 16 when she first went off to Edinburgh and I was worried sick!

She met a group of friends and they stayed overnight on a mates floor and she was due to travel back the next evening but floods meant the train had to stop at Carlisle (I think). She went back to Edinburgh with no cash on her and no way of contacting the friend she had stayed with. All the others had made their way home so I booked her a Travelodge room and she came home the next day.

I came within an inch of getting dd2 out of bed and making the 6-7 hour drive to Edinburgh that night!

Of course she was fine and now makes sure she always has some cash on her and a plan B! :D Best lessons are learnt the hard way!
  • Went to see Metallica when I was 13. Went with my brother and his mate. Brothers mate was driving, we broke down and ended up on a bus. I got on bus for half fare while I had bottles of castaway up both sleeves.:rotfl:

I've never been to one. Never knew anybody who went to one, it wasn't something that went on in my town when I was growing up, to my knowledge. Never been asked, since, to go to one by anybody either. No actual desire to go and see a gig, with all that queueing, noise, standing, shoving.

Not actually even sure what defines a gig or not.

Did go to a Folk Festival, when I was about 25, friend was working there so got free tickets.... bit dull and muddy.

Depeche Mode, Wembley Arena 1986 when I was 17, what a day and then Simple Minds at the Bowl a couple of months later. A few months ago DS1 (15) heard me humming along to the music he was playing and was gobsmacked to find I'd seen most of them live (or at least been alive when they were playing LOL). Then I told him how I went a football match once - with the result that he thought I'd been making it all up :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: 'tis true though, I have, and rugby, cricket, ice-hockey, synchronised swimming, even boxing (though I can't say I enjoyed that one). What he didn't see when he was off on weekends with his dad was me taking advantage of the free babysitting. Haven't been to gig since I started having to use a wheelchair though, the travel is just too complicated. Guess I ought to look into it a bit harder cos I could take him in as carer now. LOL, must remember to tell him about when his aunt was dating a Milwall player... I don't think he'll believe that either.

First gig on my own was Elton John when I was 15 - and I went literally on my own (friends too cool for Elton!) This was in the days when the only way to buy tickets was to queue to buy in person, all night if necessary - that was more exciting than the gig.
Tried taking eldest DD as a 6 month old baby to U2 outdoors but refused when we were asked to pay full ticket price for her. We took them to all sorts as young children - from about 14 they've gone on their own, both went to their first festivals at 16 and lived to tell the tale!

I went to Party in the Park in London when I was 14 I think, and 15, one parent dropped us off and another picked us up though. Then 16 I went to Reading Festival, just for the day though. Then at 17 stayed over night. But its only down the road from me.
