These is not evidence there is a problem with his internet speed. Nothing he will do will improve it it would be mad to reset it.
He asked about getting into his router, I suggested possible password combination, he then asked about retrieving it, I said
You could reset the router to factory defaults, but I would not recommend that unless you know what the settings are for MAAF ie the usename and password for the connection, I don't suppose you still have the documentation sent to you with the router? plus there is no guarantee that the defaults are admin and admin. (or admin/epicrouter) . Does the router have a sticker on it saying which model it really is (oh and look see if there is a password on it too , often on the underside)
I suggested not doing that unless he had the documentation, my post was in response to his request , and I have no reason to question his need to access his router.

Ok, I have a broken ankle so checking the router will have to wait till the wife comes home. I realise there are several things it could be and really appreciate people helping eliminate some. IT at my wife's work said that calling a shop and saying the computhr was slow was like calling a garage and saying the car's making a funny noise. I think thus far we have checked for viruses and at least on a basic level it seems good. I have used ccleaner and cleared a lot of crap, as much aspossible for a beginner to do easily. Next two issues touched on are the internet and the hardware itself. Internet i will try and sort tonight by getting into the router. Moving on to the computer, was mentioned earlier in this thread that maybe i need to install some extra memory. The computer is a toshiba. not sure of model, some info has rubbed off but says "satellite pro l300-153". On task manager, processes, it shows memory as 1013mb. Any comments on the computer itself?

For what it's worth, since doing ccleaner it seems a lot better. Also, i never (well, very rarely) clear cookies, browsing history, etc and have autocomplete and stuff like that turned on - so is that something i should do weekly/monthly or what?

    Cheers.

Ok, I'll do it! I got past that stage of the sticky last time and the reason i wasn't keen to do it again was that it took ages to figure out and then there was little feedback. I'll do it now though, cheers.

  • Ctrl-alt-del start task manager and end process then for HijackT, or right click on status bar task-manager
