Looked at a previous thread of mine and seems admin/admin did once work but maybe i changed it after that. Can i get it reset through safecom?
as mentioned earlier in this thread, AS LONG AS YOU'VE GOT YOUR ISP LOGIN DETAILS, you can do a hard reset of the router, normally by pressing the (normally on the back) recessed reset button with a pencil for about 10 seconds...this should take it back to factory settings and (hopefully) you can log in to it with admin/admin if that's what worked before, pop in your ISP login details and bob's yer mother's brother......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Ok, will get some extra memory ordered.
Not sure about doing the factory reset as not sure about isp login details! Might get the memory and see how that goes. Things definitely seem to be better with the few things we have done.
One final thing - how often should ccleaner be run?And if, you know, your history...0 -

Recovery disks?
The ones you were prompted to make every time you turned the laptop on.0 -
Yes, 1GB is a stretch for Vista Home Premium. Stick some more RAM in there.
This will do £8.88
Other than that, the laptop specification is fine. You can always just run a Factory Restore after you have saved your important data.
Did you make your Recovery Discs when requested?
And this one is definitely compatible with my laptop? Also, just to clarify, the memory from my old Dell was memory I added, not that came with it as standard.

If my girlfriend asked me such a question I would ignore her too.0 -
Use the Crucial scanner to see what is compatible, what is already installed and how many slots you have: you don't then have to buy it from them if you don't want to..
Vista needs 2GB to run half decently.

Ok, have found some that is compatible. Looks like Crucial recommend 4gb for vista. On their site it says the below, which means nothing to me:
Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 2GB
Slots: 2
Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*
*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.
Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.
How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.
Memory or DRAM is the 'working' memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Thinking of buying this:
Part Number: CT892572- Module Size: 2GB kit (1GBx2)
- Package: 200-pin SODIMM
- Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300
- Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 128Meg x 64 •

Does that look about right? That would give me me 3GB - would that be certain to speed things up?
Cheers, especially Take This for your immense wit.And if, you know, your history...0 -
You can't have 3GB-your mobo accepts a maximum of 2GB: 1GB per slot. The scan result will tell you if the current RAM is 1x 1Gb (with one free slot) or 2 x512MB (no free slots). If the former, buy 1GB to fill the free slot. if the latter, you have to replace 1 with IGB to give 1.5GB, or both to give 2GB.
At the price, I'd max it to to 2GB-Vista runs like a 3 legged dog on anything less.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Just looked online and came accross Web Minds Reg Ace, some sort of registry cleaner. On a free scan they claim to have found about 2000 "problems" with my system. Is this type of thing any good and are there any free versions people would recommend? Or, failing that, any really, really basic steps I can btake to try and speed up my computer?
