You only need to back up personal files really. There is no point re installing your operating system, that is a sledge hammer to crack a nut. Only 2 things will slow your computer, 1 processes using the CPU and 2 insufficient memory to cope with those running processes. If you have a slow internet speed that will slow your internet but not your C as such. The first step woudl be to establish which of those 3 is the cause. Using a scatter gun approach is not very efficient at solving the problem. I have been using windows for over 10 years and have never re installed windows. I have done a system restore a few times though. It is worth getting the memory, that is a positive step which will increase the resale value if nothing else. Can sell memory for what you paid for it anyway!!
The point is not that he needs to do a Factory Restore, but that he can do a Factory Restore.
I can see by this entry: Yes Startup User TRDCReminder.lnk C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TRDCReminder\TRDCReminder.exe that every time he starts the laptop, he is reminded to create Recovery Discs.. The machine is at least three years old.0
