The Crucial System Scanner scan that you did to produce the results in post 101...
No the RAM is not built in, both slots are removable. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Ah, I didn't use that last time but have done now. Brilliant, thanks. Currently have 1gb in one and one free so sorted - ordered!
Thanks to everyone who has helped so much. Very appreciated and hopefully I'm sorted once this memory is installed. And if, you know, your history...0 -
reinstalling windows would probably make more of a difference.!!

I genuinely have no idea what you mean by that. Well, to guess, get rid of vista and use windows? And if, you know, your history...0

vista is windows.
I mean a fresh install of vista with 1GB of ram isn't slow, lots of vista machines came with 1GB, and they weren't slow when bought. Ram is cheap for your machine, so not a bad buy.!!

Re the internet speed - are those speeds ok - 6-7 ish download, 0.37 upload, 0.5 ping? I'm with madasafish which advertise up to 8mg so i guess 7 is not bad, but i know some go up to 100 (I'm in Leeds though, not sure if available here anyway)
Madasafish are in the same family as Plusnet. MAAF is also dearer than Plusnet. I was with MAAF and when I realised that I could save a shedload of money per month by changing to Plusnet. I contacted Plusnet who migrated me over from MAAF by an extremely painless procedure. My mate who was with Metronet (also part of the Plusnet family) did the same. Check your package, do some sums and the friendy Plusnet people will sign you up and then you can barter with them for a new router - Plusnet now supply 150mbps N routers.0 -

I'm sure that I covered this in post #92.
I hope you bought the part to which I linked, rather than from the Crucial site which costs 200% more.

We're on a very cheap package with them after having called up, on a rolling monthly contract. Once our contract with bt is up we will move to a cheaper packaged (landline and bband) deal.
Cheers.And if, you know, your history...0 -
