Baby names....

Named after the fabulous Jeanne Moreau perhaps.

But love, to some extent, protects you from age. Jeanne MoreauJust for one moment, thought I'd found my way.0 -

You have to see this site, it's hilarious:

There are some truly awful baby names out there!
I second the advice to have a few options and name the baby once it arrives. I was determined to have a Daniel but once he was born he just didn't look like a Daniel at all. We picked something else and I'm glad, because every nursery class/playgroup already had several Daniels. I discovered that it was the most popular boys name that year. There are three boys in his class called Imran, but we weren't likely to pick that ;o)
Someone already said don't have the same letter sound in both names ie Horisss Ssssmith. Another tip is to avoid names that end in a vowel if your surname begins with a vowel, because people run the two together. I knew someone called Amanda Eastman and she got really annoyed when people called her Amandareastman.
We live in Sarf Landon and the locals have a strong accent (I don't come from here, I'm posh) and that can affect your child's name. Two sisters called Hannah and Holly get called 'Anna and 'Ollie. A friend called his daughter Adele and her school mates called her Del, then Del Gel (like Del Boy but worse).
For the love of Pete, don't name them after a popstar. Can you imagine how embarrassing it must be to be called Michael Jackson just now?
Please please avoid any variation of Mackenzie. For some bizarre reason it's becoming very popular in the States, and parents choose this very common name and fiddle with the spelling so their child has a unique name ie Mickenzhie. I just don't get it - if you want a unique name, don't choose the most popular name in the country! Imagine the poor teacher with 20 Mackenzies in her class...
"Mickhenzee, come here. No not you Mackensee, no not you Mukunzey, I want to speak to Mickhenzee with an I and a Z and two Es". Good grief!0 -
Just spent a happy five minutes reading that site
and found this quote:
"if this bb is a girl, her name will be adecyn shai (addison shay)...
i am not fond of jaxon, but my dh likes aryxon (erikson) and i am fond of tycen. ...
New naming rule: If in typing the name out you have to follow it immediately with another version in parentheses, because otherwise no one would have the slightest clue this was supposed to be a name and not Klingon for 'Wax my forehead, supple wench,' this is a bad, bad, woah bad bad name"
Filigree (pronounced Fi-Li-Gree)0 -
I was in a cafe having my lunch once, when a charva mother and her two children (a boy and a girl) sat at the next table.
She spoke to the little boy and called him Levi which I thought sounded odd as you tend to associate the name with Carribeans and these were a local white family.
Then she told him to share his chips with Lambrini and I nearly spat my sandwich out trying not to laugh :rotfl:Here I go again on my own....0 -
spendless do they make him spell his full name on all his work? poor sausage! at our school the shortened names are usually accepted for names that might actually be on the birth certificate such as sam, tom, ben because not all children are given the longer name. stephanie and rebecca aren't allowed to shorten theirs though.
my brothers initials are !!!!!!, he finds it quite amusing though
hey tracy, we're both chavs lol! not sure i agree with all the list there though, i certainly don't think will is a chav name unless they were referring to all those named after will young?
lambrini - please tell me you're joking!! i've met 2 chardonnays in my town, they would be around 2 and 3 now. my son wanted levi for the baby i'm having but although it's biblical so probably not caribbean it didn't seem right. baby will probably be fair, mousey and freckled so names such as bianca, ebony etc. also wouldn't suit. mind you ciaran's name means 'little dark one' and he's blonde with rosy cheeks and blue eyes (but no freckles).
i wonder how many kids are named after the beckham children? i'm not keen on place names so although i did concieve in paris i wouldn't choose it for a name. i hear jordan's pregnant, does anyone know when her chavling will be born? i'd hate for hers to be born the same year as mine but be given the same name lol!!52% tight0 -
i like older fashioned names such as molly, milly or harry etc.... dont know if thats any help.0

There have been some really useful tips and websites here. We're getting a bit closer to a decision!0

Do like the Beckhams and name them after where they were conceived
Brooklyn - in Brooklyn
Romeo - shortened version of "Back of an Alfa Romeo"
Cruz - shortened version of "out Cruzin while david woz givin rebecca some"
hope this helps!Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.0
