Remembered what I was going to ask now! I'm struggling with how to dress Theo when we go out. As it's cold out, I'm bbviously putting a nice warm coat or pramsuit on him, however, whether he's in his car seat or the pram he ends up being too hot. He then gets really upset and starts crying. We went to Tesco today and he was in a thick cardigan rather than a coat but when I took him out of his car seat he was boiling hot and sweating, the poor thing. I can't take him out with no coat on though! Anyone else have this problem?

Hmmm....Aiden has never been a sweaty baby but I know what you mean as my niece used to be like that. I know the carseats make them really warm too as they are so enclosed and snug. Could you maybe undo his cardy when you get into tesco etc? X

    Evening all :)

Hope everyone's had a good day - we've been busy painting and cleaning.

Wondering what tonight will bring - after all the excitement of LO sleeping through, last night she woke up at 2am and wanted feeding. I did the cold turkey thing and didn't give her any milk - and as Gilly predicted, it wasn't pleasant and I did end up knackered, but I think it was the right thing to do. She gave up after 50 minutes (during which I went in to her room every minute to put the dummy back in and say our 'sleep cue') and woke up for the day at 5.45am. Will see what happens tonight...

Good day weaning-wise. Apple, pear and blueberries for breakfast went down a treat - she was slightly less excited about the vegetable risotto we had for lunch, but she ate it.

Off to make up milk bottles and do the washing up... :(

My LO gets hot too (unlike her mother who's always freezing!) - she wears stuff that's easy to take off as soon as we get indoors. So no snowsuits, only coats as we have a really warm cosy toes attached to the pram. Warm knitted socks on top of her normal cotton socks. Mittens that are easy to pull on and off (no gloves or anything fiddly with fingers!). As soon as I go into a shop, I open the cosy toes and take off mittens and sometimes also the warm socks, I also unbutton her coat if we're going to be in there for a while or if she seems hot. For the car seat, same thing, she wears a coat, and then I put a warm blanket on her bottom half, which again is easy to remove.

OK, now I really am off to make up the milk bottles and do the washing up... :(
  • Hello ladies...

I have just been having a peek through the last couple of pages (so back history not read) but wanted to say hi & may I join you?!

I have a 7.5 month old daughter named Elliott (boys name - I know!!) & I have been weaning her from BM to prescribed dairy free formula as she is rather allergic to cows milk protein!! She's taken to it like anything but I have decided to stop BF today, as to be honest it is more of a comfort thing for her now than nutritional & she is perfectly content with the bottles & her baby foods. Feeling very blue... & guilty! Why do I feel guilty?!?! I'm the only person I know who actually breastfed for more than a week!!!!!

Katy - Ellies teeth haven't come through yet, but what I was told was to yell 'OW!', then take her off & say no. Apparently, I only bit once, my little sister bit twice... then never again. Shock tactics. Having said that though, littlie is easily frightened by loud and sudden noises so she'd probably scream the place down. I don't envy you, that's for sure!!!

Anyways, I am off to bed. Now that my OH can feed her in the night, I am finally getting a mostly undisturbed nights sleep again (he feeds her before he comes to bed at ridiculous o clock which wakes me..)

    I'll be back!! :)

Eleyn We walk everywhere as we don't a car and we're close enough to not need public transport. I don't have a snowsuit for A as I don't feel he needs it really. On a day to day basis he tends to wear, vest, trousers and top. If we're going out I tend to either have 2 thin layers on top, so say a cardigan and then a rain coat type jacket or just a thick coat. He has his socks and shoes on too, and a hat that covers his ears and mittens. I put a blanket on the pram and he is completely toasty like that. What about something like a thin cardigan or hoody type thing for the car? Then just stick a proper jacket on at the other end?

lilt Can totally recommend Oat and Almond milk for cereals etc. The formula we have is disgusting and he wolves down his food now I make it with Oat milk. The 'wot no dairy' desserts are a good alternative to yogurt. I get mine from Holland and Barratt but I know that you can get them online, amazon sell them. I'm assuming it'l be the same as my wee one and she will react to soya too, as it has the protein in :( Welcome btw :D xx

  • Thank you Gilly...! She actually genuinely loves the Aptamil Pepti stuff, after spitting out and vomiting copiously at lacto-free stuff. She's just like her mumma only I just deal with the consequences for my Huckleberrys ice cream.. hehe. It tastes like ovaltine! Before today I could only have told you it smells like ovaltine, but then she was sick in my mouth... bleh!

I've tried rice dream milk, hazelnut milk & coconut milk personally, but haven't tried either of the almond or oat milks. I must look out for these. Supermarkets I go to (Sainsburys & Asda) don't have great options so I do have to head online!

I was told forcefully to steer clear of soya milk as it carries a lot of oestrogen apparently & can upset the future fertility of under 1's... I was fed soya milk from weaning at 9 months..

Thanks for the welcome!! SO much for early bed... Football must be viewed quickly!

Holland and Barratt have Almond and Oat. Tesco sell Almond and Oat too. The Almond is usually kept in the chiller, and the Oat next to the long life milks if that helps at all. We did use coconut but I felt it was a bit sweet for every day, didn't want him to get used to how sweet it was.

We don't use Soya either, he reacts to it when it's in food. A lot of "dairy free" food has soya in, I have to be so careful, it's a pain in the butt. We use the Genesis bread, it's dairy and gluten free and tastes ok :) x
