    Hello all
    First proper post on here!
Me hubby and little Scott are having a bf nightmare !
Kira saw your post on preg thread and have not had time to read through this thread but basically have been bf LO born tues. he was weighed this morning and has lost 13%. Mw phoned hosp he was nearly going to have to go to hosp but have been given 24 hrs to try and feed him up. Every 3 hours 10 mins each breast, 60 ml formula and I need to pump each breast until milk slows. We started at home this afternoon and have been very worried. LO seems fine but it has been made clear he will get sick etc quick if don't sort out. We were very left to own devices in hosp when baby born. Mw saw me Friday but because was bf in chair and latch looked good she said all well etc. reality is that I have been bf in stupid positions lying down as could not seem to get proper latch and it has been painful but thought he was getting what he needs but clearly not.
Upshot is we are getting the formula down him, have been bf in chair but nips are sore when he is latching but not every time and cannot get a single drop out using Medela mini electric pump even though my nightie is being leaked on by breasts *so* frustrating . We have the rest of the night to go have given up with pump just trying to do the bf and formula and hope to god he has gained and not lost when weighted tomorrow at 10 am

Had a really crappy day tbh and mil and loads of relatives were here to visit so added to stress as could not let mil wait longer to see LO as already upset at delay in seeing him as we wanted to be home first for visits.
Lots of tears today as milk is def in as breasts are leaking but so worried will have to go to hosp with him. But thing is looking at him you would not think there is a problem, he is not dehydrated, listless.

    Anyway feel better for sharing

Hugs to those who need them

    Ro xx

    (((hugs))) Ro

I'm having a similar experience here. I'm convinced Amelia isn't getting enough milk, I don't think she's latching on properly. I'm going to ring the breast feeding support worker at my surgery in the morning to get help.

I just feel really overwhelmed with it all at the moment, and like I don't have a single clue what I'm doing... :(

  • Hi, I thought I might join in on this tread, after being on the OS board they told me about this one.

Just a bit about us... Eliza is a good baby, BF well. Sleeps well (wakes at 1 and 3.30am like clockwork). She is my second child (DS is nearly 10) but she was my 8th confirmed pregnancy. I had a horrid 9 months and was bed bound for it, but so poorly I couldn't watch tv, listen to the radio, go online or read. Now she's here I'm feeling amazing and go out walking daily (i share the school run, so walk it once a day... its 2.5 miles) I started going out when she was 2 days old.

Yesterday Eliza went to church and got overstimulated. When we got home it took a while to sooth her to sleep, but by bedtime she screamed and comfort fed for 4 hours... then went down at 10.30pm and I woke at 4.30am in a panic! I just fed her while she slept (just in case), and she's still sleeping now. She did have a lot of food before she went down.

I was hoping for advice on her belly button, her cord came off day 5, since then its scabbed over but it keeps opening and weeping/bleeding when she moves too much. There is no sign of infection, it just looks sore. Should I do anything or just keep it dry and uncovered as best I can?

  • Mirrorimage she 10 days today. I last saw the midwife on day 6 and she said it was fine. I've not heard from a HV yet.

I used to walk 5 miles a day before I fell with her... while pregnant DH used to take me out... after 5 minutes I was in pieces... I just love walking and missed it so much. Couldn't do two school runs a day though.

round here we see our HV on day 10 , has she phoned you yet for an appointment, i know every area works differently. the only thing i would probably do until i see hv would be to clean it with cool water and cotton wool to be honest.

  • I've not heard a peep, and we're supposed to see her before the baby is born and then day 10.

I've avoided bathing her, and dabbed it with sterile water. just it keeps splitting and you worry it will never get better.

bet it bothers me more then it bothers her.
