Yep thats what i was asking chick, thanks. Might just make sure I express in 100ml amounts then, just don't want to waste valuable booby milk but not sure the best way to go about it xYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Another option is to fill the bottle with 75ml and store the rest in a bottle in the fridge - this can be added to the next time you express to make up the right amount as long as you use it all up within 3 days. If he's still hungry, you can also give the milk straight from the fridge without warming it up, although it may give him hiccups if it's cold.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170

thanks hun, the 75ml/25ml was just hypothetical, cos I've only just started expressing I want to make sure he gets enough etc. Might just keep a note of how much he takes for each feed for the next few days xYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

SM and Jedi - Thank you, both of the bottles of EBM I had in the fridge had about 3oz in so DW gave her one of those (I obviously took loads of pics of Teddy having her first bottle feed
). She seemed to still be hungry afterwards so I offered her boob and she fed for a few mins then promptly brought most of it up all over herself and me!
Ikkle If I were you I would do as you did in the hospital and store the milk in the fridge in slightly smaller volumes (eg. 50ml) and then you can always offer a second/third bottle if your LO is still hungry.Became Mrs Wallis Nov 2010, baby girl born at home in the birth pool 1st Oct 2012 :happyhear0 -

I'm just giving the monster his last feed - been waking him up as I go to bed recently for a last feed and change, seems to have broken his 10.45pm wake up routine which is good. Then an early night for me as I'm pooped.Newborn thread member

Yeah, Freddie's done that on occasion. I reckon it's because he's not actually still hungry after the bottle he just likes the soothing aspect of the booby, so he'll have a chomp for a few minutes. Because he's already full up, he brings it back again. Try cuddling Teddy after the bottle-feed for a while rather than offer her more milk - it's probably just taking her longer to settle.
In terms of how much expressed milk they'll take at each feed, someone did provide a useful link that explains how to calculate it. In summary, you divide 25oz by the number of feeds each day and that's how much they take at each feed (give or take a bit). I reckon 3oz is about right for a 1 - 6 month old breast-fed baby with a normal appetite."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Sunshine - not sure what we are doing for Christmas yet. Usually go to my mums for dinner/evening but have family time at home in the morning. The boys woke up at 4am last Christmas so it was a very long morning!!
Having a quiet day in today as I feel like poo again! Hope everyone else is ok and babies slept well

Morning all, I think I'm finallystarting to feel better, thank God. Couldn't take any more of that.
Ikkle If you're going to be expressing exclusively, then I'd recommend getting an electric pump. You're going to be expressing 8-10 times a day, so that could make a big big difference. With an electric you're looking at maybe expressing between 15-30 minutes each time, I'm not sure how long that would take on a manual? I'm pretty sure you can hire them from the hospital or from the local HV so may be worth looking into it, it will be cheaper than formula anywayIf you're expressing exclusively you want to be pumping as much as you can at each expressing session.
I managed to express exclusively for 3 weeks, but I gave up after that, the constant sterilising, expressing, feeding got too much for me in the end, so I admire anyone who does it.
Sunshine My Dad has just told me yesterday he is flying over for Christmas :j I am really happy he is coming, gets me out of going to PIL's and means we can spend our first Christmas as a family just us and I get to cook Christmas Dinnerwhich I really enjoy doing. If my In-laws would like to call by at some point then I don't mind either, I don't think they're going to be very happy but they don't live close, think 30miles away and we don't have a car.
A is currently watching Mickey Mouse Club and shouting MUMUMUMUM at the screen, no idea which one I am?
