Turtlemoose, Fluffnutter, katiechoc - thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post. I think what it is, is that right from when he was first born he would sleep for long periods of time, like 5-6 hours, without waking. I thought this was great but when I mentioned it to the midwives they said it wasn't normal, that a baby of that age should be waking 2-3 hourly for feeds and that he may be dehydrated which is why he wasn't waking up. I think this has made me a bit over-anxious and although he is now probably old enough to have long sleeps, I constantly worry that there is something wrong with him. Although everyone says he will let me know when he is hungry, for some reason I worry that he can't/won't which is completely irrational, I know. He is having plenty of wet nappies so I know he's not dehydrated and he's putting on weight so I know he's not starving. I just need to relax a bit. It's just that without a routine I struggle to know that he's doing what's normal for him ifyswim. And I'm an anxious person by nature unfortunately.I can't speak for elelyn but I found it very hard in the first 2-3 months before George found his pattern, one day he'd sleep for 2 hours be up for two hours, sleep again etc then the next day he'd sleep for 30 minutes be awake for hours , sleep for an hour... I like to have an idea of when I can get stuff done, like plan when I can get a stew cooked for tea, the unpredictability was a killer. Now he's fairly reliable - up for 2 hours, sleep for 1, repeat until bedtime.
This is so true too. Today he was awake and either feeding, needing winding or wanting to be held the whole time DH was at work and I got absolutely nothing done in the house, which drives me mad. Then he slept the evening away, but after waking for a feed he is wide awake now! Luckily DH sent me to bed at 8pm so I've had some sleep.
Ladies, thank you once again for your advice. I am finding this forum a godsend at the moment, it's brilliant. I have decided that from tomorrow I am going to stop stressing and just relax and go with his flow. I am obviously not doing him or me any favours by trying to impose my own routine. If he wants to sleep in the day and be awake at night I suppose I'll just have to do the same until he works out which around it should be!0 -
Sunshine that picture is so cute! Well done Aiden!
Sexymouse - glad hear both of your babies are on the mend.0 -
Elelyn... You are not the only anxious mum... I too am terrible and I'm not normally .. Usually quite laid back but the past few weeks have been a nightmare. It started about week 6 with me after the growth spurt which got me down abit with constant feeding etc and being stuck in house all day... Gp advised me to get to some baby groups which I have been doing but I'm still anxious!
The older she gets (now 10wk) I'm fretting thati should be sorting a routine out and trying to get her to go for naps in her cot etc but it's not working :-(
I seem to be finding more and more things to stress over too... Going back to work.. Stuck in house over winter etc ... Motherhood has turned me neurotic lol!0 -

Wow!!! Can't believe how quick he is growing up!! Noah is like a newborn compared to Aiden, he is only rolling over still!! Is Aiden sitting on his own yet?

Freddie will never nap in his cot during the day. He sleeps well at night but won't nap unless we go out in the car. Occasionally he has a doze in my arms but if I were to put him in his cot he'd cry. The way I look at it, if he doesn't want to, I'm not going to make him because I don't want him to associate his cot with somewhere he doesn't want to be. He's like me - he saves his sleeping for night time (I never sleep during the day, never have done). I think baby books that focus on this all-important 'routine' make us neurotic. Hi Sammie
Oh dont worry, I bet Noah will be moving about in no time. Aiden only started properly moving about 2wks ago.
I dont leave him alone sat up as he wobbles over, and he wobbles over when he is stood like that too.
Noah has two teeth I saw you post...we still have none lol.
Whats everyone up to today? xxLittle Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

Well done Aiden! Part of me can't wait til George is on his feet but the other half is dreading all the running around! If we put him in a sitting position he can sit there for a fair while on his own, until he gets distracted and flops over. Silly boy!
We had a good night last night! Fed him at 11 as I went to bed then he only woke up once at 5 and then back to sleep til 8!!! And he's just gobbled down his breakfast (baby porridge with a chunk of mushed up banana).
Today we've no plans as I daren't risk going to baby group like normal when we might be carrying chickenpox. Gutted as I really like the Tuesday one. Oh is off work today though so might go for a wa instead.Newborn thread member

Had a night with a grizzly baby last night - don't know what's the matter with him at the moment - he's very unsettled - could it be another growth spurt? He's 20 days old today, and seemed to have a grown spurt around day 10-12. I tried to get him to latch on again last night as I thought he may respond better as he'd be more relaxed, but he punched my already tender nipple (sore from pumping constantly) with his poorly arm and it really hurt, so I gave up again and gave him his bottle before he got too frustrated. He was awake from then onwards all the way up to the next feed and was grizzling whilst I was pumping in here. He ended up having a feed only an hour after the previous one again as he was obviously hungry still. Going to go to the breastfeeding support group tomorrow afternoon, and hopefully the lady who knows about tongue ties etc will be there as I think he's got an upper lip tie. I was watching him sucking on his bottle last night and it looks like struggles to do that too as his lip seems to tuck under rather than coming up over the top of the teat. Is that normal? He also makes a lot of clicking sounds when he sucks.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170
