Hi all been away for a while as been visiting family. It's the first time they've met Reuben so he got lots of cuddles and fuss
My lovely friend who makes loads of baby stuff lives there too, so had a visit to her and got R some cool new dribble bibs and some bunting with his name on for his bedroom, it looks fab
I did read back but it's nearly a weeks worth so half of it has fallen out of my head already
Sexy mouse your poor kitty, I hope everything is ok.
My 4 yr old niece was fascinated by me breastfeeding (she's never seen anyone do it before), she asked about 80 million questions about it every time I fed him, very cute but sometimes awkward!!0 -
Sexymouse - hope your cat goes on ok.
Katiechoc - Noah's room is usually about 21/22 degrees. I put him in a best, sleepsuit and a sleeping bag. His room Is the coldest in the house so we bought a little oil heater and its really made a difference.
Gave up in the end and went to bed early last night as I felt so rubbish yesterday!! My car is in the garage today as there is something wrong with the clutch which means we won't be able to go to baby group and I left Noah's car seat in the car so can't even get s liftwill have to walk up the school later do praying it doesn't bucket down!!
Hope everyone has a good day. Xx:)DS1 10yrsDS2 7yrs :)DS3 born March 2012

Thanks for the info re temperatures. The heater in his room is rubbish, it's either on full pelt or off - going to get the oil filled radiator down from the loft tonight I think, try and at least keep it a constant temperature. Googling something and the top result being about overheating and SIDS when you're half asleep in the middle of the night is not good!
Anyway, had the best night we've had in a while, only up twice! Whether that's down to it being warmer or having given him his mushy carrots later in the afternoon who knows.
sammie are you recovered now?! I'm a total lightweight, always have been but 9months off it completely has not helped! Even a spritzer with dinner is enough to give me a headache and make me woozy! Hope your car isn't too ££, and you don't get drenched!Newborn thread member

I really like using our oil filled radiator. I get too hot with the heating on all night and it would have to be turned up quite high to warm Noah's bedroom.
I feel a lot better today thanks!! I'm not a big drinker either. I think it's the first time in about 2 years I've had more then 1 alcoholic drink at a time!! never again!!

I've just spoken to the day vet, and the language barrier last night has obviously led to a some misunderstanding on my part. I've written down all of the notes so I can understand things properly and update you.My cat had a blocked bladder. The blood tests revealed high potassium levels where the toxins had built up as they were unable to be flushed out by the kidneys. They are going to repeat the blood tests over the day and hopefully they will see levels coming back down to normal now the obstruction has been removed. He is catheterised at the moment and still passing bloody urine, and they think the raised heartrate was due to the pain he was in and the stress of being at the vets (he has a phobia of going since he had his leg amputated when he was 3 after being run over). The vet said the kidneys will hopefully bounce back, but the bladder wall was very stretched, so they will be holding their breath when the catheter is removed as to whether he is able to urinate on his own or if he strains to go. They can't work out why his bladder became obstructed based on his diet and lifestyle, so this is a bit of mystery. The catheter will be removed this evening provided the blood results are ok, so he'll probably not be able to be transferred to our vet until tomorrow. I feel a bit better about it all now, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that his bladder and brain connect and he's able to urinate.
Thanks for all of the well-wishes for us both. xx
I know he's not a newborn, but he's still my baby!
I registered Jonathan at the doctor's this morning as he's got an appointment to get some antibiotic ointment for his eye infection. The health visitor has just left and has said she's like to see him at the clinic in a couple of weeks as his head circumference is lower than it was at birth (36cm as opposed to 37cm) and he's got 2 days left to put on 70g to return to his birth rate. He was forceps delivered, so I'm not surprised his head circumference has gone down as it was so swollen! I tried to put a newborn vest on him whilst they were here that he's worn once and it was too short! Surely this is more of an indication of healthy growth.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170 -
Katie, re. temperature - it's usually 19-20 degrees in my LO's room, and when it is she sleeps in vest and sleepsuit and a thin fleece blanket folded in two. When it was hotter in the summer, the temperature in her room was sometimes as high as 24 degrees - I adjusted clothing and blanket (cellular) accordingly. She's usually quite warm, and doesn't like being hot - it seems she'd rather be too cold than too hot. During the day she often wears one layer less than me indoors, rather than the other way round - I'm always cold!
I wouldn't worry too much about the official guidelines - go with whatever George seems happy with. And if that turns out to be 22 degrees, then so be it - millions of babies the world over sleep in rooms much hotter than that every day!0 -
Sexymouse, hope your cat is recovering well, must be so worrying to have two poorly babies
Hope Jonathan's eye infection clears up soon too. I agree that the way in which growth is measured is far from ideal - and some HVs seem a bit too obsessed with numbers and curves. I guess it's hard when they're so young though, as there isn't much visible 'development' taking place - just sleep, eat, poo! In most of Europe, length is also a key measurement of growth, which makes a lot of sense to me - your too-small newborn vest being a case in point! 70g is hardly anything though, so it sounds like he's doing well - one big feed before weigh-in and there you go

Sexymouse - fingers crossed for your cat. Keep us updated
Went to baby group in the end, decided to walk there then I had to walk straight up the school to pick the boys up and now just got in from walking home!! Won't get my car back until at least tomorrow now too as they need to order s part in.it's ds1's birthday this week and I have so much to do so I really hope we get it back tomorrow.
Oohhh nice Noah is straining on the floor!!

Just been updated by the vet - Ebony's catheter has been removed and on examination, his bladder seems to be tightening up which is a good sign. His bladder was only 1/5th full which is what they'd expect from having being catheterised and his collar has been removed so that he's a bit more comfortable. He's staying in tonight and they'll monitor his urine output to make sure the brain and nerves in the bladder are working properly. I have to call again in the morning.
Jonathan has got eye drops from the doctors - he has to have them 4 times a day - just hope both my babies get better quickly now.
On a plus side, I've bought myself a cheap bra from Mr T and cut two holes in the front to make myself a homemade hands-free expressing bra. Don't know if it's the lack of compression, or whether my milk supply has just taken a leap up, but produced 60mls from my right boob and 90 mls from the left one earlier in just 20 mins. I'm pumping again now, and the amount coming out seems to be lots again, so I'm now able to pump enough to meet J's demands and have a little in the fridge to top up for if we go out etc.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170 -
