He was born with his arm above his head (would explain why I couldn't push him out) and his left wrist is permanently flexed with his fist clenched and thumb tucked in. The paediatrician thinks he may have something called Erb's Palsy.
Weigh-in a success - he's virtually up to his birth weight again of 9lb 7oz so has been discharged. Downside though is his eye swab came back and he has an infection in both eyes (had gunky eyes when he was born which I thought was from swelling from the forceps so goodness knows where he got the infection).
Oh sweetheart, that's a bit of a worry about his arm. I've just given it a quick google and there's loads of therapeutic treatment out there so if you haven't already (but I bet you have!) check it out online. When will you know for sure? As far as I can tell, if he does have some nerve damage the quicker the diagnosis the better as the treatments appear to be most effective if started in the first year. Babies are resilient things and if there's one part of the body that can heal over time, it's nerves.
Hope his eyes clear up quickly (I'm sure they will) and it's great news about his weight. I remember feeling so comforted by Freddie's weight gain in the first few weeks because of the difficulties we'd been having with feeding. My furbaby is sick! Don't know what is wrong with him - I went downstairs in the early hours of the morning and found him crouched on the back doormat in the kitchen. He growled at the catflap when I got close so I guessed there was another cat out there that he was trying to scare away. He slunk out after I stroked him, and stayed in the garden all day (not unusual at the moment since Bean's arrival). This afternoon my sister and her boyfriend were here visiting Bean, and he slunk in and looked very unsteady on his feet. He was growling if anyone got near him. He went and hid in the corner of the dining room and came out this evening and hid under the dining room table. He was sick and is obviously in pain - he's had a drink of water from a saucer and is currently curled up by the fire. Jonathan has the health visitor coming at 11.30am, and I've got to get him to the doctor about his eyes (swab results came back that he has staph aureus - hope it's not MRSA). I'm in a real state now, as both my babies are sick - don't think I'm going to get much sleep tonight! 8am when the vet opens up can't come quickly enough!

Hi all
congrats family of 6, welcome to our thread!!
Sammie, lol at your hangover! Hope you can have a good sleep.
Sexymouse, oh nosorry you have a poorly kitty and baby. Hopefully the vet can give your cat a jab and sort it out, I had cats when I lived with my muk and its awful when they get poorly. Its amazing what a little injection can do. Hope Jonathon's eyes are ok, fingers crossed the HV can give you something to make them better.
Hope all sleep well xxxLittle Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

Decided to call out of hours vet - we have to travel 30 mins to get there and it's going to cost £133! The vet said he does need to be seen though as the symptoms I described could mean he's been poisoned! Cat has a suspected blocked gallbladder - he's been kept in overnight and it's going to cost in the region of £600! It is life-threatening, so I'm glad we took him in when we did. Our insurance should hopefully cover it, but I can't find the paperwork anywhere - only found the paperwork for last year and it looks like the policy number changes every year. The call centre aren't open until 8am, and we have to pick the cat up at 7.20am. We have to pay in the morning and then claim the money back. We then have to take him to our own vet for the rest of his treatment so goodness knows how much it's going to cost. I feel sick - wish I'd taken him earlier in the day.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170

Oh no sexymouse, your poor kitty:(. At least he is getting the right treatment though. Hope he's ok when you pick him up.
How hot do you all keep your baby's rooms at night? George's has always been round about 20*c but the last few nights he's been waking up feeling cold so I thought that might be contributing to his poor sleeping. Tonight I've upped the heating and put a vest under his sleep suit and this is the first time he's woken up which is brilliant compared to the last few weeks. But the thermometer says 22 and google says it should be between 16 and 20 to help avoid SIDS so I've turned the heating down in a panicNewborn thread member

I don't have a thermometer so I'm not sure. But ever since he's been born I dress him in one more layer than I wear, even at bedtime so he has his sleeping bag the same as my duvet, his sleepsuit the same as my pj's and then his vest, which I don't wear obviously. Even in the summer he wore that to bed. the temperature in the living room is around 19/20 over night at the moment so I'd assume the bedroom is similar, as we're in a flat.
Maybe get a higher tog sleeping bag? I know they say always feel there chest to get a more correct idea of there temperatures, there hands and feet and ears can be cold and feel freezing to us, but that's not a clear indication of how warm they are. xxThe frontier is never somewhere else. Hi all
Sorry to hear how poorly your cat is sexymouseglad he is getting some treatment, hope its a speedy recovery.
Katie, our thermostat is in the hall. When we put him to bed its about 20, but when I get up in the morning its been 17 lately. He sleeps in vest, sleepsuit or pjs and sleeping bag. The only thing I worry about is his arms getting cold as they are not under the covers so to speak. I suppose Aiden could be waking as he is cold...I am not sure, could you try a long sleeved vest? Our heating goes on at 630 on a timer, but I suppose I could leave it on all night on the thermostat 16 and it would only click on when it dropped to 16. Can you do that?
Sorry I am not much help! XLittle Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea
