Re breast pads, I use tommee tippee or if its a tight month tesco's own brand "mum" as they are considerably cheaper. I tried some unknown brand from home bargains and OMG my nipples have never stung so much in all my life and I've never had problems with cracked/sore nipples in 6 months of exclusively bf-ing so they are definitely NOT recommended lol.

    Hello all!

Well after what feels like months of stalking you all in the hope of tips, I gave birth to Jonathan Ian on Wednesday evening (9lbs 7oz, 50.5 hours in labour - although some of this wasn't classified as official labour as contractions weren't close enough together - started 6mins apart and stayed that way for a while). He was delivered with the assistance of forceps so I'm feeling quite sore and bruised, and we've been home since late Thursday night and had a health professional visit on both days. I'm having trouble breast feeding him at the moment as he won't latch on (he did it properly for the first time today when the lady showed me how), and as he's slightly jaundiced I'm worrying and feeling guilty about not feeding him enough. My milk hasn't come in properly yet, so not producing loads. Have managed to hand-express small amounts at a time and she's given me a syringe to help feed him or I can use a teaspoon as I did at the hospital. I've got another lady coming to help me tomorrow so hopefully we'll crack the latching on the left side at least. Bought a nipple shield today in case I need to use that on the right side, but don't want to give up just yet on my own as I don't want him to only latch with one on. Well I can hear him squeaking, so had better go and try again.

PS. Could someone please add me to the list, as meant to do that but my feeding alarm is going? Many thanks.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Real quickly as I'm about to hop into the tub, when he breast feeding person comes sexy mouse get them to check baby for any potential tongue or lip ties. Aaron wouldn't latch and iv since found out he had a lip tie after giving up which could have been solved. Use the shields if Needs be, you can always wean off them later on. I know another lady still uses them occasionally at 7 weeks, may be Jedi? Congrats xxx

Hi to the new ladies and congratulations! Nice to see this thread busy and being a great support to new mum's!

JJust a quick one from me as my tea is nearly ready! Finally got Poppy in her cotbed for the first time tonight! She fell asleep quickly, hoping she has a good night and we can finally put the moses basket in the loft!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Feeling a bit despondent (may also be hormonal if my milk is coming in (boobs are rock hard and feel tender so it's possible I suppose, or it could be cos I've been expressing so much today?) as I still couldn't get him to latch properly. Thanks for the tip on lip ties - I've heard of tongue ties, but not lip ties, so will ask about that tomorrow. I only managed to express 5ml at this feed, and he's clearly hungry still as he's rooting wherever he can, and trying to eat his own hand. Moon is holding him at the moment as he settles better with him (think he just associates me with food and the fact that he's not getting what he wants from me), and so I could eat my dessert. I'm hoping to have a bath before bedtime to help soothe my stitches as they're very tender tonight and I've got back ache too. Hopefully things will all seem a bit better in the morning, although I'm feeling a bit desperate at the idea of having to feed him every 2 hours throughout the night too. :( *crosses fingers* I really don't want to give up on breastfeeding as apart from the MSE aspect, my pride won't allow me to stop so I hope all goes better soon.
