:j 'normal' night here too! 9:30-4:00, feed, 4:20 - 8:00, feed and cuddle In mummy's bed, up at 9:30.
Sorry to hear of bad nights elsewhere, hopefully they will sort themselves out soon.
I'm off in to town today to pay in the cheque from my tribunal - this is for the maternity pay they should have paid me - £3792!!! It's a shame I had to spend £3750 on a solicitor so it cancels it out...bah...but at least i have it in future if i have another baby, and it made me feel soooo good to think how much it must have stung them to have to write it....mwahahaha!0 -

Hi all,
Can I join the thread please? My little man, Theo Henry, was born 4 days early weighing 7lbs 13ozs on 4th September. I have been meaning to come on here and join in ever since but haven't found the time until now! Although the birth was straighforward our first couple of weeks were rather stressful. We had issues with trying to establish breastfeeding and after struggling, dealing with a tongue-tie, expressing and syringe feeding followed by bottle feeding expressed milk we eventually had to give up and go onto formula. I still haven't quite let go of the guilt I feel about that but I know that it was honestly the best decision for all of us in the end.
I also had a major case of the baby blues for a couple of days which was horrible. Luckily I have fab family support and my ace mum came to my rescue and helped me no end. We are now doing really well, little man is thriving and I am one happy mummy.
I know that there will be many more challenges to come but I am hoping that I will be able to get some good advice and support from you all along the way - and of course I'll give my own support where I can be useful.0 -
Hi!! I come from the pregnancy thread to see if any of you has experience with the Medela Swing Electric Pump with calma. The reviews are great but the price not that much, I am considering buying on eBay to halve the price, but I'd like to know if it is really that good and worth my money. The claim is that it estimulates the nipple just as baby does, and thus is more comfy. The calma teat that comes with it is said to work as the breast would and milk only flows if baby works, so it is easier to alternate with BF or even "train" baby to breastfeed if it is difficult at first... Is there any truth to that? I am a total newbie and I believe most of what the brand and the shopping assistants say... which is dangerous with a tight budget.
I use the Medela swing and couldn't say anything bad about it. Look out for deals I brought ours for £120 but have seen it on sale sine for £95 and also £90 at teso with club voucher reward thingy half that price, this deal has now finished.
Calma teat is great but I would not introduce until 6 weeks.

Thanks very much!
I have seen it at £99 for sale at the NCT website, but some new sealed in box ones are at £70+ on ebay, whilst unsealed but apparently new or second hand a bit less. I still have a couple of months and a bit ahead, so I am hoping to find a good offer or use my Boots points to bring the cost down.
May I ask why you would not introduce the calma teat to a newborn? I thought that it mimics the breast completely, so there was no risk of baby not wanting the breast afterwards? I am worried I won't know how to BF or maybe it would hurt too much (even before the pregnancy my nipples would hurt when touched), so I was thinking of using the Swing to express, then using the calma to feed (so DH can also do it), and BF naturally in between if I can. Is this a bad idea? I am complete newbie to this, I have zero experience with babies
EDIT: Also, what brand of maternity pads / breast pads would you recommend / not recommend?Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

Ooo fluff you must be shattered, hope you get a better night tonight.
Hope the cheque is all safely paid in now turtle :T
Welcome elelyn and congratulations!
We just got home, totally shattered. Nice day though, and George was really good - we went to a video game expo (super geeky!) which is quite dark and noisy so I was a bit worried, but he slept through most of it! Had our photo taken with Super Mario :rotfl:Newborn thread member

Elelyn - hello, congratulations and welcome! Good to hear you're enjoying motherhood now and that little Theo is doing well0

Maternity pads - I found Boots own brand really good, but didn't like the ones from Mothercare as much. Boots do two types - really thick and comfy ones which you'll need for the first few days, and some thinner ones that you can move onto once the bleeding slows down.
Breast pads - I thought Boots own brand were OK, but preferred Tommee Tippee and Lansinoh. You'll probably get samples of the Lansinoh ones through either Emma's Diary or Bounty Packs (sorry can't remember which one).0
