  • Morning all!

I've read back but can't remember anything so I'm just going to send some hugs while Finn has a catnap :)

I've been to physio this morning about my SPD addled body, not much they can do until I get some energy to do some exercise though :( has anyone else lost a dramatic amount of weight through breastfeeding?

    Hope everyone is ok xxx

no but how jealous am i lol no seriously though i gave up breastfeeding around 11 weeks as i really feel samuel wasnt getting enough, nutrients from me, still feeding every 1 and a half to 2 hrs all through the night as well and was just sooo tired so gradually ut him on bottles, have loads expressed though to mix with baby rice when he is ready.

they do say breastfeeding your meant to lose around 500 calories a day and to eat more to make that up.

    Hello everyone :)

Hope you're all doing OK, LO is now 2 whole weeks old  she is a little star though!

We are FF now which I have my regrets about, but I'm not going to dwell on it.

Just thought I'd pop on and say hello :)

hugs Delain. Glad little one is doing well and you qare happy. try not to dwell on the whole feeding thing. Make sure you get plenty of time to bond and your darling daughter wont know the difference. As long as you are both well and fit and healthy thats all that matters.

Hi Ladies! Hope to be joining you all in the next few weeks. Can I ask, does anyone use a cot bumper? I've read mixed theories on them, and was going to go without one?

Thanks for the reassurance ladies.... whilst i think we all deep down know things will change, when you are living in the moment, it doesnt seem possible that they CAN ever improve..

Last night was infact much better. Instead of straight through inconsolable screaming from 10pm to 7.30am with no sleep for anyone(the book that said a newborn cannot physically stay awake more than 90mins is lying BTW!!), it started more like 11pm and lasted till 3am, before becoming more off and on through to 4.30am when i sent DH to bed for a few hours as Cj was much calmer and starting to be able to take a feed again.

I managed cat naps of 20-30 mins between feeding from then till after a big feed at 6.30, when i got DH up, to watch her for an hour and half whilst i went to bed.. Bliss! My first solid block of sleep in my own bed since last Tuesday, the night before i went in for induction.

Other progress too...:j Not long i know, but she has been in the pram, not asleep but contentedly lying there for 20 mins, still hoping she might drop off, but happy with what i've got otherwise! I also got out the my first baby book, black and white soft book, with a flexible mirror on it, and stood it about 12" away from her, and she happily stared and waved at it with new born "interest" for about 10 mins too! That counts as "activity" in my book!

Long way to go though- next two hurdles if anyone has any tips, are 1)dealing with her wind, which she doesnt give up easily (she farts a fair bit, but hardly any burps), and HATES being burped (queue mad crying spurts). I've seen suggestions to use a more upright feed position to help this, but not sure what that might look like? I'll ask the m/w tomorrow and see if she has the number for a BF support advisor.
Second one, is in the late evenings, she gets soooo overrought, that even if she wants to, she cant seem to get latched on. She just shakes her head madly side to side, with the nipple in the mouth, and wont suck. Any ideas on how to get her on? ) another one to also ask the m/w for help on, but i thought you ladies might suggest first!?

Kira i found i was feeding quite a lot in the first few days.

Had a bad night last night. Nearly went in the loungue to let OH sleep as its his first day back at work. How do your OH cope when baby is up in the night?

Im starting to think maybe she has colic? I gave her a feed at 8.20 for 15 mins then another one at 9, then she wouldn't stop crying, i gave her another feed at 10.55 for 15mins, still didn't settle OH stroked her and she managed to go to sleep, i started crying because she wasn't settling. Then i woke her up at 2 for a feed, still took her quite a while to sleep then was up at 4 for a 10min feed then chnged her nappy, then offered more only feed for 5 mins, put her down at 5, was mking noises, then another feed at 5.30, only for 5 mins, then didn't wake up until 8.

Went to the breastfeeding group was good talking to other parents, they all said im doing ok and to just go with her demands.

DD was asleep about 9.30-11.50 had a 20/25min feed, then another 5mins at 2. cried tried to offer more but didnt take it, didn't go to sleep gave her another feed at 3.45 for 20ish mins but i think near the end she was just sucking and not feeding, should i off left her to keep sucking and come off the breast herself? Shes gone off to sleep now. So she has been up nearly 4hours this afternoon. Ive not slept i know i#m gonna be so tired later.

What do you guys do in the evenings? Because i like to go to bed watch a bit off tv, maybe a dvd. Last night me and OH got into bed about 8.30ish, he went on laptop and i watched tv and feed DD. So can i take DD to bed with me when i go at 8/9 and then watch TV and turn tv off when i go to bed or will it wake DDup or unsettle her and stop her from sleeping?

kira, ellie does the same when trying to latch her in sometimes shakes her head madly side to side, with the nipple in the mouth. i hold my breast in one hand and hold the back of ellie head with the other hand and firmly put her on my boob. here is an image of how i ho;d her to latch on. http://static.abbottnutrition.com/cms/similac/IMAGES/breastfeeding-position-cradle.jpg

here is a more upright position

the breastfeeding is not going so well at the moment. Ellie seems to enjoy clamping her gums down hard and i am getting very sore. I have started using nipple shields but the ones i have bought don't seem to fit that well so may order some other ones. it is starting to reach a point where i don't want to feed her not helped by the fact she seems to want to feed all the time.

She is spending tomorrow morning with her dad while i go to uni ;-( She will have bottles there so it will give my boobs a rest!

    Thanks Jen.
:rotfl::rotfl:at the giant baby compared to newborn (even our bigguns)... OK, i see how that works. Will have to explore logistics of her size and my large boobs which come a lot further down than that womans seem to be!

WRT the shaking head thing, thanks for the tip, sounds like i just have to be more firm with CJ and hold her head more to get into position. Will give it a go.

She is in the pram sleeping again! Had another nap- 2 in one day time, yay! had 30 mins earlier, and nearly another 2 hours now, with a feed in between. Feeling almost human..:)
