Hi everyone, this thread is so good and I would love to join.

Baby Zak born 01/01/2012 7lb 4oz if someone can add to the list for me :-)

Im also really struggling with things atm. After having a dreadful first few days at home after the birth and having to go back into hospital as Zak was dehydrated/jaundiced I just felt like a total failure at bf. Got told so many different things by so many different midwives that I couldnt understand who to listen to. 1 midwife told me I should only be feeding him every 4 hours on the breast and to not do it anymore than that to prevent him from 'snacking'. When I told my local midwife that she couldnt believe another midwife would say that, she said I need to be feeding him on demand. Im still bf and he is 16 days old today but dont think I have actually gone a day where he hasnt also had expressed milk from a bottle or 1 bottle of formula.

Today it feels like he has been on me non-stop and never satisfied. Think the main reason im not happy feeding him solely from the breast is my worries from the first few days where we found out he was dehydrated and im scared it will happen again.

Also my husband is still off work but he starts back next week and im petrified about being on my own. Im struggling with not sleeping at night and have no idea how to get through a whole day and night on my own as its not fair on my husband to be up in the night with having to travel to work as well.

There are breastfeeding groups local to me but if im honest im scared to go - have no idea what to expect from it. And if im really honest I hate everything about breastfeeding but I know its best for Zak and me - and when its going well I dont mind it as I do feel close to him but part of me wants to quit and just give him a bottle. :-( Feeling very low and still cant manage a day without crying - thought by 16 days in I would be over this.

Breastfeeding - it took me four weeks to get the hang of it and a lot of people told me that it took 6 - 8 weeks to get going so i would say to keep at it.

I stopped jacob from biting down with his gums by making him wait a little longer to feed so that he was properly hungry.

I also used the 'letterbox' technic where you squish your nipple to fit your babys mouth and to get your nipple as far in as possible. Once i got the hang of that it stopped hurting and i no longer have to help him get attached.

Im glad im not the only one who doesnt get bubs weighed every month lablover. Im sorry if i sounded like i disagreed with feeding purees hun, i didnt mean to. My mil really disagrees with me doing blw and keeps on at me so i am a bit touchy!

oh so close to tears now. ellie has fed off both sides and completely emptied them. then she threw up loads of yellow/ green phlem and all the milk. now she is screaming and rooting coz she has an empty belly. put the back on the boob but she just got cross.

any idea what to do???
