Cloudberry if you really hate breastfeeding you don't have to continue it. Your 'let down' of the milk will be affected by not enjoying it. Why don't you try giving a bottle of formula and see how it makes you feel? You might feel that it is the right way for you to feed Zac (big congrats on a new years day baby, by the way!!!!) or it might make you feel that you want to continue with the breastfeeding. Formula is so sophisticated these days there is really no reason to feel guilty for going with bottles.
I found my breast feeding group very friendly. And I enjoyed going for the chat. Jenjade has a good suggestion of going in the last half hour.
Hugs Jenjade. I would strongly recommend a hair dryer (and a dummy) for little unsettled babies. Not all babies like a dummy for some some it is a huge comfort. I would also recommend Ewan the dream sheep. My LO is completely taken with him and stares and stares at the red light in his tummy. I am convinced it reminds him of being inside the womb.
Kira Daniel spins his head from side to side when he is tired. He does it even more if they is a dummy nearby.
Have just eaten nearly a whole packet of Mini Eggs. They are my absolute favourite chocolate. Pity they are so fattening!

Edit: just read back to see you are getting Ewan tomorrow mirror. I got mine on Ebay for £10 plus £3 postage. The cheapest online was £26 new. I find it works well with a dark room. Daniel is transfixed sometimes with the red light. A bonus is that if I put it on in the middle of the night is at it puts me back to sleep quickly too.

Ewan IS a godsend!! Ha ha! I've just ordered a second one for the grandparents as they have LO overnight sometimes and will be having him when I'm back at work.

So this Facebook thing....is it totally private? Will my friends see it? I'm not a big facebooker!

Those who are BFing, I admire you and hope that all LO's settle into it properly soon.

Think I paid £26 for him. Didn't shop around (bad girl).
  • Thanks for the supportive messages girls, it really does help having people here to chat to. We have given the odd bottle of formula now and again and its a real break for me tbh. I do dread the night time though.

Mirror I added new born mse mse as a friend a few mins ago before reading you set up a group!

I'm going to stick my oar in lol and say that because my older ones were puree fed from 4 months as was the advice at the time, and squeak was blw, and I found blw much more satisfying and less hassle :) that's not me being preachy, it's just the honest opinion of someone who has done both!

  • Loads of stuff to answer, had a bit to catch up on!

I paid £23.50 for my Ewan on Amazon (plus you can get Nectar points!) and he arrived today. Looked on Ebay but a lot of them were going for similar prices. Pleased that he is louder than I was expecting, seems to be working his magic too. We have the lullaby 'leg' for the bedtime routine time, then switch to white noise/heartbeat 'leg' for going to sleep. Time will tell if Ella really does like him, only started bedtime routine 3 nights ago.

Bleeding - 5 weeks for me and just about finished, very light for the last 2 weeks or so.

Really don't fancy going to any groups, but luckily I've got a few friends who have had or having babies so we tend to just get together. If I was having probs with bfing though I'd probably give one a go.

Weight loss - lost about a stone in 5 weeks, could have been more if it hadn't have been Christmas with all the extra food! Have just started going back to the gym again which should help, and also walk the 2 1/2 miles into town at least once a week as well as other random strolls with the buggy/carrier. Only another 2 and a bit stone to go!

  • Cloudberry, don't stress about your husband going back to work. You WILL be fine. If I can do it anyone can.

My DH went back to sea on Friday and won't be back till may/June so it's been a bit of a shock to having him around and both of us sharing the care of Ben to having to do it all on my own. I do have my MIL staying with me for moral support, but she is very hands off with Ben to make sure I can cope with him. She does do the fun things like cuddles and has taken him for a walk but the catering for his every need is down to me and she is just really here to make sure I don't overdo it as have had issues with my section wound healing.

I ended up formula feeding as got no support whatsoever with breast feeding which was a shame as I was hoping to do so but Ben use wouldnt take to it, and even with expressing he would down the bottle of 4ozs and be looking for another and finishing another bottle pretty much straight away and both DH and I felt that he was taking to much given that he was still not 2 weeks old and demolishing on average 6ozs an hour and keeping most of it down so we switched fully to formula as I was having to top him up as I just couldnt express enough to keep up with him and keep him satisfied.

Right he has now dropped back to sleep so I'm going to go get some more shut eye.

Thanks Giz, I had post partum haemorrage in hospital and lost 2800ml of blood due to a tear in my uterus. I had to go back in for surgery under GA a few hours after the section.

Jen, my MW and HV advised me to take LO to the GP or walk in clinic if she barfs up green mucus, yellow is fine apparently.

LO went to the GP yesterday and he said that he doesn't think she has reflux when lying down as she would cough or vomit. He thinks it is either phlegm or the soft tissue at the back of her throat relaxing and that it should improve soon.

I met with the peri natal mental health team for an assessment. The woman was really nice and I cried a lot talking about how I feel. I will be referred to a counsellor and hopefully be seen in the next few weeks.

LO is 6 weeks old today, and it feels like forever ago since she was first born  We are going to the swimming pool again today, and we have signed up for a baby massage class that starts in a few weeks.

I'm also starting back at Weight Watchers tonight. I hopped on the scales yesterday and gave myself a fright  Despite the fact that I cannot seem to eat at the mo I am still way over weight

I've sent a friends request to new born mse mse - hope it is the right group!
