I still havent made it to a single group yet and my daughter is seven months old
However this is due to her suffering from terrible reflux which does not respond to medication at all, so feeding in public is just not an option as everything comes back up! On the plus side we finally have her consultants appointment despite being referred when she was six weeks old.

Hi ladies, loving reading this thread and can't wait to join you! i'm 25+1 so a while to go yet.
Just wondered if any of you can give me some advice on which cotbed matress to buy. I've read all the guides on mamas and papas etc but there are so many to choose from and I'm scared of spending a load of money and then not being happy with it. All I know is I want a sprung one and I don't mind paying a bit more for a decent one.
Hi Lisa
I got a medium priced sprung mattress from mothercare. It was worth a bit extra as I got 2 years out of it with DD and will probably get another 2 years use of it with DS. It seems just as comfy now as it did 5 years ago when DD was born.First Baby born January 2007
Second Baby born September 2011 :j0 -
Errrr hi Alison, what are you doing awake? Ewan not taking his share of night wake ups??! My LO is absolutely full of cold :-(. Just woke (after 10 feed) so I changed his nap, used saline spray and vapour rub and he seems to have gone back to sleep for now. Im trying to avoid feeding and he certainly didnt seem hungry.
KM as you prob know my LO has awful reflux but thankfully he's on a good combo of meds now. It was going to groups that kept me sane in the early days. No one minds the sick at all and I found another few girls with reflux babies. Where there are helpers they'll usually come and hold LO for a while despite the puke and screaming! (((hugs))) for going through it and I hope your hosp app is soon x0 -
Wrong.....I decided to feed and glad I did, he took nearly the whole bottle!0

Thanks Doglover
TBH she is my second child to be affected this badly by it and I am not finding it nearly so stressful this time round. My younger son had exactly the same symptoms including also the constant diarrhea every time he ate, the eczema, and overproduction of mucous to the point where it choked him and also made him sick.
With my beautiful boy I also had the added bonus that he screamed constantly both night and day....his face was constantly a deep purple colour and I am certain that more than one person must have thought that I had given birth to a screaming ribena berry rather than a baby!
My daughter however spends the majority of her time sleeping and grins her head off constantly no matter how much pain and discomfort she is experiencing. This time round the thing I struggle most with apart from the stress and worry relating to my baby's welfare is that no matter how often I wash I always stink of sick/sour milk!
My son is now a delightful child that people love spending time with as he is always happy and smiling so I know that it does get better eventually.0 -
KM you're a braver woman than me....I absolutely adore my gorgeous son but the thought of doing it all again with a toddler is too much! DH and I have gone a full circle from orig planning 2 but decided to stick to 1 now.
My LO sounds more like your DS. Until they got the meds right he screamed constantly. It's a different kind of high pitched scream and heart breaking. Really pleased your DD seems to be less of a screamer. I can't believe the hosp are taking so long to medicate! You've been through it before and can easily say what it is...you'd have thought the GP would be able to prescribe meds based on your exp and knowledge.
How did weaning your DS go? We're on week 1 of rice and giving a spoon every other day. He seems even more windy! He is 5 months.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I think the PND is making me feel like I don't want to go to groups and meet new people as I am worried about having a panic attack. I guess I'll have to make myself go though. Hopefully the meds will start taking effect soon although they seem to be making things worse at the mo (as the GP said they would).
Have had another rough night with LO, she has grunted, groaned, squeaked and snorted through the night. In the end OH had to fetch her downstairs to sleep so that I could get some sleepThe water in our bedroom doesn't seem to have improved the mucus in the back of her throat. I am going to make a GP appointment for her on Monday as I am seriously starting to lose my marbles from lack of sleep. Poor OH isn't getting much sleep either as he keeps having to take LO downstairs and cope with my middle of the night tears

Re washing....I think that's all I do! I probably still stink of sick/sour milk but I don't even notice now. I can get a shower of puke and just laugh it off now. 5 months of it certainly changes your priorities. I'm now dead proud of myself if I'm dressed before 9 ;-)0

WW really sorry you're struggling. I don't suppose there's anyone who'd take your LO for a night so you and DH can have an eve together and full sleep? Get asking anyone you'd trust.
How old is LO now?0 -
I am only dressed in the morning as my little guy starts nursery at 08:45 and I have to be dressed to take him. :rotfl: Weaning with my boy was very hard work and was certainly not a smooth road. He continued to be sick very regularly and owing to the food being thicker it very often resulted in terrifying choking episodes. However by the time he reached 10/11 months old it was all resolved with eating and he was having mostly the same foods as my older boy, OH, and myself.0
