Katie how do you get George to feed at a set time for your bedtime routine? Reuben will only feed when HE wants to, if I try to get him to at any other time he just won't open his mouth :o

We've just got back from a day out at Bridgnorth, the weather was lovely. We went to a pub for lunch (a rare treat) and they had some folk musicians playing, a storyteller, and a real ale festival. Had a sneaky  while Reuben snoozed in his sling.....and even OH had a go at carrying him in it :T

Hope everyone else has managed to do something nice with this weather :)

Oh and I'd happily have another baby any day, sadly having had a section and finances mean we will have to wait a while yet :o

To be honest it's not really a conscious thing to make his feeds work so he's due one around 7, it just seems to work that way. Which isn't very helpful I know! But I must have a greedy beggar - he NEVER says no if it's offered! Sometimes if he's not very hungry he only stays on for a minute but he'll always have a bit. Today he woke from a nap just before 5 so fed then and I'm doing the bedtime feed now, he started doing hungry faces about 6.30pm but we had a bit of a wander round the house to distract him for 10 minutes then nappy change so by the time I started feeding him it was pretty much 7 anyway.

Hmm well hopefully baby ESP will find the pattern for me! (an app on my phone that tracks feeds, sleep etc).

I would love to have a bedtime routine that early....but 9 times out of 10, from 6pm until 9pm is cluster feed time so no chance..... But then he does consistently go down around 10 and this can be between 3 and (twice!) 5 hours sleep.

fluff we had a rough start here too. 10 days in hospital with him too ill to breastfeed, so I pumped and cup fed (I actually had nightmares about the sound of the pump when I came home). He had a tongue tie too, but due to a complete !&£)(!?!;#%^ of a paediatrician saying it was IRRELEVANT to breastfeeding issues, OH and I disagreed on the tie. So it didn't get cut until 4 weeks 1 day. So I had 10 days as Daisy on the pump (8 of which with the wrong size nipple shield which rubbed me raw), then 19 days of tongue tied dodgy latch....if it wasn't for lansinoh I think I wouldn't have any nipples left!!!!! After such a rocky start, I have to say it was 8 weeks for me before I thought "yeah, we're doing this!". I hate to admit it but early days I sometimes resented reuben when he wanted feeding, as it was just so painful and miserable. But now....when he gazes up at me with solemn wide eyes, and holds on to my top or bra strap with his top hand...or my favourite, when he pauses, looks up at me, gives me a big grin with nipple still in his mouth and then carries in...can't beat it :D

Ok...here's a question for you veteran BFers!!

I just fed Reuben from 7:22-7:28. He stopped and. Let go (his choice), and within moments fell asleep resting his face on my boob. As I am watching the Olympics, I didn't bother moving (feeling lazy today!). He slept there for half an hour, and had reclined slightly so was no longer touching my boob. I pulled up my bra, didn't touch him, didn't move him...I'm not kidding the second my nipple was covered his eyes flew open and he screamed!!! I sat him up thinking maybe wind but no, the all familiar uh-uh-uh ...milk please mum! He's just had 6 mins on the other side and has done the same.

What is this?? He sometimes only feeds for as little as 3.5 mins (I think he must be efficient, as he is gaining weight),so I don't think it's because he's still hungry....as he would have carried on eating on the first side while asleep, or just not slept...? Anyone else got a nipple-seeking-radar built in to their baby??? If so, how can I put him down, or at the very least put my boob away (!), without waking him up??

little lady is doing this right now so we are olympicsing together!!she has been feeding and doing the same since 630pm. At nct breastfeeding group wednesday the counsellor said its normal. she is a lazy feeder has a bit takes a nap and then comes back for pudding then another nap similar to how we eat at a wedding or something -lots of rest in between. so either growth spurt or cluster feeding for the night.

You will just have to go with it if you are demand feeding. They do fall asleep eventually. she did this earlier for 4 hrs and last week 6hrs straight. They are putting in the demand for more milk and then u will make more :)

This time of night, Breastmilk as lots of what i call "sleepymones", which helps them drop off, but can also make them drop off just a little bit too soon. So they start feeding, and then relax and literally drop off and sleep, but haven't quite finished feeding, so they arent hungry exactly, but are likely to wake up wanting more. When you put your boob away, you probably moved, and that stirred him, and he woke thinking, Hey, i wasnt done yet! LOL.:rotfl:

Incidentally, Cj had tongue tie too, which i spotted in hospital on day one, but the midwives said i was wrong. I eventually managed to get a referral to be seen and get it released at 8 weeks!!

Lol at nipple seeking radar!!!!! George isn't too bad, If I'm careful I can get boob put away without waking him but other times I end up carrying him to the bedroom with one hanging out, it's a good job we live on the first floor or I'd be giving the whole street an eyeful!

I'm with you on the "smiling around a mouthful of nipple" thing, it's so cute! Less so when it means he forgets to swallow and I get milk all down me though ;)

You could trying putting your lo down/covering up straight away turtlemoose, or if you are at home and happy to be 'on tap' then like rebekah said the constant feeding could be to get your supply up. Treat yourself to a drink of stout :-) helps with milk production apparently!

Lots of people comparing night sleeping, i think we might get a whole nights sleep at age 2-3 if we are lucky! I am very jealous of those who sleep through

Oh the other thing to keep awake nct said to switch sides to make sure. When they look sleepy switch to the other breast to wake them up. do a nappy change/winding can help.Switching also helps pull in more demand for more milk on both breasts not just one. Switch at least twice so they end back on the 1st to get the hind fatty milk.

Awwww at the smiling feeding babies, giggling with bre ast in mouth is great too.

Now jacob is older i find it amusing that if im toppless in bed he will launch himself with a grin to feed, sometimes 'roaring' at the same time. But he does tend to try to stick his foot in my neck sometimes
