dizzi wow a sling group - I'd love some advice on mine as I used to only use it very occasionally as it was hit and miss if he'd sette in it...watched a video online the ohter day on how to tie it ever so slightly differently and Reuben LOVES it...which means so do I and we will be using it much more often!!! I don't think there's a sling group round here though..!

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, I will have a look on netmums and see if there's something more suitable. I struggle at home with BFing and knowing if it's the right choice etc etc etc as nobody around me is keen on me doing it. OH's family...against it (MIL thinks I should be weaning...what at 9 weeks?! !!!!!!?!). OH is, I suppose, indifferent - if I try to talk to him about a hard day doing it, his answer is "if there is a problem, then fix it = give formula"...rather than actually I need some reassurance that I'm doing the right thing not just encouragement to give up at the slightest hiccup :( I think he just doesn't 'get' it. I'd also like to talk to other mums about BFing poos (baby's not mine!), frequency, duration, vomiting...that sort of thing - just so I can know if I'm doing it right or not!

nutella i share your parcel-waiting-pain! I am waiting for my order from mothercare, I'm actually quite excited - it's Sophie and also Freddie the Firefly :)

We had first jabs today, I thought I was going to be sick it made me feel that bad when he cried. Sounds stupid but the "in pain" cry I have only ever heard once before, when we were still in hospital, so it just bought back a flood of bad memories. I do hope one day (soon!) that stops happening!!!! He was then fussy, then sleepy, then had a big feed and promptly threw up a huge amount (not like him)....but now he seems a little happier. he is in a vest (the less clothes the better as far as he is concerned!) having a little kick and waving his arms next to me on the sofa - I hope that means he feels better now!

*hugs* to all with babies with colic - sounds horrible and so glad (touch wood) we've not had to deal with that.

Aw turtle, hope he's ok after his jabs. It's horrible watching them in pain isn't it? George is much better now, still a teeny red mark but its not hot or swollen to touch any more. And he just gave me the biggest smiles whenhe was in the bath! First time he's actually seemed to really enjoy it. Enjoyed it so much he weed in it. Nice.

My to do list isn't really going down, got the meat done and washed up just trying to summon the energy to do the spuds now he's gone back to sleep (do anyone else's littlies get completely wiped out by having a bath?). The brownies are soooo not happening today.

Turtle if you want to talk/vent about BFing feel free to do it on here, not sure about the other ladies but I'm BFing too. Ive noticed at the baby groups I've been to so far there seems to be a lot more formula fed babies than bf, although I've not been to the special bf meet up at the children's centre.

turtle have you looked on the slingmeet site to see if there's one near you? http://www.slingmeet.co.uk/

naturalmamas forum is useful too (and has regional boards that might be of help) http://naturalmamas.co.uk/forum/

and on FB there's a sling for sale/trade group that does advice/discussion too (hazardous to bank balances) http://www.facebook.com/groups/209783279077720/ or if that doesn't work it's called "Slings and Things - FSOT and advice"

I never got on with one way of wrapping a moby (mine's getting to be too heavy for it soon) - much prefer an alternative carry - horses for courses I guess... working on hubby to get a nice woven wrap for days I don't want to use my meitai or connecta.

Katie glad he's enjoying bath time now. I haven't had mine wee in the bath yet (I'm sure it's inevitable), but he did once poop in the towel as I was drying him afterwards...gross!!

Re BFing, it's just so hard as I constantly feel like I'm justifying it. OH and MIL think he should be sleeping through by now (eg 10-6). He simply cannot go that long without being hungry....he isn't always consistent but roughly does 10-2, feed, 2.45-4.45, feed, 5.30-7.00 feed, then we tend to have a morning nap together from about 7.45 - 10 if we are not going out. During the day he will go up to 3hrs between feeds, but evenings (about 6pm-9pm) he pretty much constantly wants milk- as little as a half hour gap! From what I've read online, all of the above is ok...but I often doubt myself and wonder if I'm doing the right thing. OH's older son (FF) apparently slept through from 6 weeks blah blah blah ....just makes me feel inadequate and worry that I'm somehow stopping my son getting as much sleep as he could have. :(

    Afternoon ladies!

I haven't had time to post as regularly as I like although I've been reading every day! Usually during the night feeds on the iPod when I'm trying to keep awake! I remember writing a massive post last week and then lost it when I went to post it

Glad to see everyone and their LO's are doing well! Teddys got his jabs in a week or so, so it was interesting to hear all your stories. I'm obviously dreading it, but hubby is worse than me so I've got to be the brave one!

turtle, I'm not bf any more but your LO's feeding patterns are similar to Teddy's! He can go 3-4 hours between feeds during the day but at night after 1am he's up every 2 hours to feed, then only has 2 or 3oz as opposed to 5oz! Seems to fall asleep while feeding which is probably the problem but can't seem to wake him up for him to finish the whole bottle! I'm not too worried though as he goes straight back to sleep after, for the first 4 weeks he'd have a 2-3 hour gap in the night where he'd be wide awake

Can anyone recommend a good cot mobile?
We have a crib in our room that has been in hubby's family for 60 years, so had it to be traditional more than anything really, although it is lovely. At nearly 7 weeks old, Teddy is too big for it! He likes to sleep with his arms out or above his head and he is touchin the sides in it so its waking him up. So we've bought a cot to go in our room but have now got no room for our bedside table and lamp, so was thinking of getting a mobile with a nightlight on too. Do any of you have a good one?
Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference :)

Turtle- I know it's easy for me to say but stick to your guns, you ARE doing the right thing, as long as he's putting on weight and happy in himself I really don't see the reason to change. I agreed to try George with formula only because I was really struggling with the pnd and trying to work at the same time. For the time being George has made his feelings regarding formula pretty clear! going to try and get him comfortable with taking a bottle of expressed bm before trying the formula again. I do appreciate its hard to understand BFing unless you've done it though, until I started I really had no idea how much hardworking it is! Especially when they're little, George still wants feeding every 2-3 hours during the day but can go 4-5 at night now.

Mes Bryan - we have the fisher price jungle mobile, it plays music, jungle/nature sounds and come with a remote thing which is handy as sometimes it stops just as he's drifting off so I can press the remote to play it again from the door without disturbing him. Plus the little animals are really cute!

Turtle, hope Sophie and Freddie have turned up by now! Thankfully my delivery (weaning books + a pillow) came in the morning, so I could leave the house and go for a nice long walk with LO in the pram.

Must be so hard to constantly have OH and MIL telling you what Reuben 'should' be doing by now and not recognising that every baby's different. The lady who ran my antenatal classes said something that's stayed with me: all those people who give you their 'advice' might think they know everything worth knowing about babies, but they don't know THIS baby! I wouldn't worry about him not getting enough sleep - if he seems happy and is developing normally, then whatever he's getting is right for him. Only a tiny minority of babies will be sleeping through at that age - and I don't think that's related to whether they're being BF or FF. My LO, who's 3 months tomorrow, is FF but hasn't slept through yet. In fact, the amount of milk she's having at each feed is still the same as it was 2 months ago, despite the HV and the formula tub saying that it should have increased by now. But she's growing and putting on weight and is generally a happy baby, and that's all that matters. Trust your instincts, you're doing a great job. Big ((hugs)).
