Sorry if this is a bit insensitive, but the whole "I can't bond with my baby unless I can feed them" line makes me really cross....if that was true then men would all have breasts and lactate. We've managed fine as a species so far without that!

However, it would be nice to have a breather sometimes, so I do understand that :)

I see you fed him a bottle of BM and also a mixture, but he refused the mixture from your OH, have you tried OH and just BM? Maybe the mixture is a little too unfamiliar. And here's a random one, I read a study that showed babies show a preference for BM with garlic in it, so maybe eat some garlic and then express?? Might be nonsense but might be worth a shot?!

I think you might be on to something with who does the cuddling...cuz he might be thinking "yes nice cuddle, then some BM from mummy" and then you go and sto the cuddle and try make him have the bottle - perhaps if he is cuddling with your OH already then he won't be expecting to be BF and might be a little more accepting of the bottle.
  • In the spirit of healthy eating and weight loss, I have got blueberries, strawberries, raspberries (nutella I'm also a berry fan!). Also have some kiwis and bananas - so plenty there for snacking and maybe some smoothies too. Got raisins and oats too, plan on making my own healthy cereal bars, I'm thinking easy to grab one quickly once they are made, can be eaten with one hand, and oats for energy on those sleepless nights/days.

My trouble is my OH eats like a spoilt 5 yr old....every meal comes out of a packet from the freezer. The only non-freezer meals i can get him to eat are curries (but cant add anything exceot chicken - no veg not even onion), enchiladas, and my own version of kfc - so none of which are healthy meals!! It's hard to cook healthy for one, especially if I'm also cooking unhealthy already. I've decided i am going to save up the next two months of child benefit and buy a chest freezer....that way I can batch cook healthy meals for me - I find its the only way I manage to eat a vegetable or two!! Or meat other than chicken! Love him really (but mealtimes are a pain!) :o

Hope everyone has a sleepy night xxx

You'll find the cooking a lot easier with a good freezer when your LO wants purees etc as well...maybe you could get your husband to try all the new stuff he does....I've never understood fussy eaters!

The diet went ok last week but this week is a struggle. Think I have some sort of bug as I feel completely de eneregised even though for the last two nights he's slept right through.

For fussy nappers have any of you tried putting them down in baskets cots etc when they are not quite sleepy and just pottering around where they can see you,. If my LO is being a bit fussy at naptime he sometimes goes to sleep if I put him in his cot and then put some clothes away in his room. then you just walk out every now and again. Mind you he has always been quite good at nap time.

Seren both OH and SS are fussy eaters....what that means is they'll eat chips and chocolate and not a lot else! I actually have very little patience for it though as i don't believe it's genuine. For example, SS won't eat chicken as he doesn't like it apparently, but he'll eat chicken nuggets from McDonald's. OH said when we first got together that he only ate chicken breast. He didn't know it but he ate several curries made with thigh, leg, wing etc....and when I told him afterwards he just shrugged it off. Theres loads of examples but basically it's just nonsense so I give up on the pair of them.....BUT I am determined Reuben will eat like a normal person so when we get to weaning there won't be a chip or processed meat in sight!! :D

Rebekah have you managed to get some sleep or at least some rest?

My OH is a nightmare, so now we've ditched the purees and going for BLW, I find myself cooking really healthy for me and bubs. We're having chicken casserole tonight, I wonder how he'l find it :) he loved his home made mexican burger I made! I got a video and it is the cutest thing ever, he couldn't get enough.

I think he may be ill, he's so sleepy, it's not like him :(
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

Gilly I know exactly how you feel, and I intend to do the same - healthy for us pair. I'm trying to eat a varied diet now because of the BFing - not just because of the vitamins etc but because of the different flavours too, so hopefully by the time we get to weaning, he'll already be used to different flavours. I'm also enjoying eating proper food again (and different meats!) , should have done this sooner.

Bidding on a freezer on eBay that ends tomorrow, £51 at the mo, the cheapest new one i find is £132.99 so fingers crossed for the eBay one!!

Hi everyone, I'd just like to say hi for the first time on the newborn thread! Luke Wynn Preston was born on 27 July weighing 6lbs 5oz. His blood count was low and he wasn't feeding well at first but is doing really well now –!in fact we went for the second midwife appointment today and found that Luke had actually put on 3oz, when it's usual for babies to lose weight after the birth. So am really pleased :)

I'd like to get your advice on breast pumps. I think I made a mistake in ordering a second hand medela swing breast pump from eBay. I replaced the valves and shield but forgot about the tubing and I don't think it's easy to replace. Now I'm thinking I should just sell it back on eBay and get a brand new cheaper version for hygiene reasons – either the mini medela pump for half the cost, or the Avent hand breast pump. As I don't know how long I'm going to breastfeed (not likely to be more than a few months at most, plus it never satisfies baby so end up supplementing with formula) I don't think I should spend a lot on it but I still want a reasonably decent one. Would appreciate your advice. Many thanks!

Ha I know what you mean about the bonding, my oh hasn't said anything about it, it's all me and to be honest it's not really about the feeding, it's more the rejection that comes with it. I'm sure George will grow out of it anyway. Going to keep trying but focus on expressing and try and build up a bit of a stash that way.

BFing must be dng something right though, just had him weighed, 14lb now and following the percentile almost exactly. Took him into a baby group too and met a few other mums.

Weaning sounds fun, although I do feel for you that have fussy eaters to cater for. The only problem I foresee when we start weaning is my oh is a complete chilli nut - he puts chillies and Tabasco in EVERYTHING!

Yay for healthy snacks, would love some of those cereal bars ;) We bought a chest freezer a couple of years ago, it was my OH who wanted it, I didn't quite see the point, but I've grown to love it. In addition to dinners, I stockpile berries in the summer when they're on offer and use them in the winter for smoothies. Oh, and then there's half price/BOGOF ice cream and pizza, but we won't talk about that since we're trying to be healthy... :o My OH and I have always cooked separate dinners - I'm veggie and he loves his meat. Sometimes we cook rice or pasta and then two different sauces - I know some people think that's a bit weird, but it works for us....

My husband has eaten the last biscuit and not told me, I just went to get the last one to eat and it's gone. I think that might be grounds for divorce ;)

:rotfl:It most definitely is! And I thought my husband was bad for using the last vegetable stock cube - I was half way through my risotto-making when I realised we didn't have any left. But the last biscuit... unforgiveable!
