Mozzy - I was only offered gas and air when I was literally pushing but I had pethidine at about 6cm.
I'm not to keen on needles do I would be to scared to have an epidural! Is the needle massive or is that just a myth? Also do you have to have a tube in your back?!!!:o

Didn't even see it, or feel it going in. I remember her saying to curl up and keep still. It took everything I had to keep still, but I knew I wanted the pain relief instantly and urgently, and nothing was going to get in the way of that! Can't remember if there was a tube. It was all such a daze, as I said, I was in shock, so don't remember the end :0 xDFD February 2012

Hello!!
Oooh Mozzy, sounds like a crappo labour
Mine was pants too, waters went early and was dilating very slowly. Pethadine did the same to me, didn't touch the pain and just made me super woozy and sicky. Gas and air didn't work either as I was really sick on it. I had really bad back ache from about 3cm and for some reason spent most of my labour on the loo!!!:o
I was pushing at 7cm, I seriously could not control my body and could not stop pushing. They eventually decided to give me an epidural at about 8cm as I was pushing when I shouldn't have been and was in too much pain. I honestly didn't feel it go in, I had a contraction mid epi too and they had to stop until it was over. It was amazing when it was in, I think I fell asleep within 2 minutes!!
He then got stuck and had to have ventouse and he wasn't breathing which meant I couldn't hold him for a couple of hours as I tore/was cut and was really sicky again.
I still get a bit weepy about it too, not as bad as before though.
Sammie - have a lovely holiday!!!
Janinne - night night

Mozzy - my hospital was very generous with its gas and air...I had for internals on the ward, breaking of waters in delivery suite and the bitter end of pushing/cutting/forceps! Epidural failed twice so was given a spinal block - which I thought would stop all feeling but very clearly not, silly me!
Joseph has been so hard to settle todayBarely slept really and not for longer than 15 minutes at a time. In the past he has hated cooled boiled water in a bottle but has guzzled it today. Finally settled now so hoping for a fairly decent night when we go upstairs for final feed and bed about 11pm - fingers very firmly crossed!

Thanks sunshine.
After reading some of your labour stories I realise how lucky I have been with mine.
Ds1 was 12 hours with gas and air
Ds2 was 6 hours without anything
Ds3 was 8 hours with pethidine and gas and air
I have never needed a single stitch either (don't know if that's a good thing)
I have been so lucky with my labours. Labour is traumatic enough without going through what some of you have!!

Ahh lucky you
I think everyones are so different.
When/If we have another, I so hope to get a better labour than last time!!!!
Also - this is a bit funny, when I packed my hospital bag I put loads of 'treats' in like haribo, fruit pastills, polos as well as cereal bars, orange juice etc....as if I thought I would just be chilling out on the bed during labour munching some haribo!?!?!!!!!:DLittle Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea
