Welcome fluffnutter, welcome to the 'other side' with your little man!

OBEM is so much more interesting now I've 'been there, done it', but I do still get annoyed at some of the women! I also get annoyed that they all seem to be allowed gas and air while they are pushing while mine got taken away for that bit :(. I think there are different policies in different hospitals, or perhaps my midwife thought I was starting to get addicted to it!

I know I did a bit of shouting and swearing but DH said it wasn't too bad (he may be lying!). I closed my eyes when labour proper started and barely opened them for hours, until munchkin was out. I met another midwife afterwards who said it was nice to see my eyes, and it turned out she was the second midwife there for the actual delivery and there was a student midwife there too!! They'd been at another birth next door where the woman had ended up being taken from the birth unit to the delivery suite to have a forceps delivery. I heard that poor woman shouting

I can't watch OBEM now - I get too angry that, while even the mad screaming ones get shown compassion on it - we got shown anything but.

As for waters breaking - I've typed all this before, but basically the abridged version... happily munching an easter egg on Easter Sunday (Green and Blacks - can't stand the stuff anymore) and started getting period pains. Initially thought "ooh braxton hicks finally" - then realised they were coming at 5 min intervals. Rang hospital and expected to go down, be on the monitor for a while (was only 33 weeks after all) and then back home the same evening... they did an exam, saw fluid up there and did a swab confirming amniotic fluid... immediately whacked in the first lot of steroids, wheeled out neo natal doctors to speak to us about how 33 weekers were likely to be and left me to it.

Following day, lots of pain - insert very evil midwife here who attached the "bad patient" label to me as I'd asked her to leave me be to talk something through with hubby for 5 minutes and she'd carried on getting in my face being confrontational so I repeated my request... waters eventually fully broke in the middle of my 3 and a half hour wait for pain relief as I was on the loo because sitting on the bog was the only way to get any relief at all from the pain they'd left me in.

Story ended with me in stirrups (left me with permanent pain in my hips from my SPD as they recorded and then ignored my safe gap), spinally blocked and shaking from a reaction to the anasthetic, forceps, the entire neo-natal crash team, one blue baby in a ventilator and me lying alone in a pool of my own blood in a maternity ward listening to newborns cry and mums have snuggles. Oh and add in the social services referral because I'd wanted them to record my safe pain-free gap before putting the spinal in - and the subsequent nightmares I have most nights about them coming to take her away from me - which has resulted in me ending up being prescribed anti-depressants this morning to try to stop the bad dreams.

Needless to say - OBEM makes me feel INCREDIBLY bitter and angry - even their screaming annoying ones (and I probably was by the end of it - I was terrified, had been so badly treated I was running on pure fight or flight and was dealing with the mental leap that the only place my baby was headed was NICU) get treated with respect and compassion.

Hello all, welcome fluffnuttter! Is everyone enjoying the sun?

I used to be the same with obem - "what a drama queen, get a grip woman!". And I turned out to be completely pathetic when it was my turn! Although I think I was pretty quiet until the last 2-3 minutes when I sort of lost it a bit! My waters went 2 days before edd and I ended up being induced and a ventouse delivery. We had two student midwives during our stay on the delivery suite, one was completely useless, had the bedside manner of a gnat, but the second was brilliant, she'll be a cracking midwife when she graduates.

Anyway, G is asleep so I have to crack on with some work, hope everyone has a lovely afternoon.

Hi ladies, can I join in too please? Proud owner of little Joseph, born 16th June :) Who is currently a very grizzly little Joseph because of the heat!

Just had a quick read back, I bought a waterproof mattress protector too in preparation - which is currently up for sale on ebay! My waters were broken by a Consultant in hospital on day three of induction - was on gas and air for it, sooooo blooming painful.

Oh and I'm loving watching the OBEM repeats now - apart from being very jealous of the 'I've fashioned my own red bikini' girl for getting a waterbirth!

    Hope everyone is well :)

Welcome Triangle! Congrats on Joseph :j

Hope he's managing the heat ok, my littlie is wearing just his nappy and doing ok, but when he was teeny tiny he really struggled with the heat.

I'm sure someone will add you to the list, I'd do it but last time I tried I lost all the formatting so I'll leave it to someone who knows this time :)

Really have to do some work now. Work should be banned when it's this hot.

    Welcome Triangle :)

I love that the thread is getting busier. I've added you to the list. Congrats on baby Joseph :j

We have been to see nursery number 2. Now we are stuck between two, one is cheaper but a little smaller while the other costs more but is a bit bigger so more to do. We are going to have a chat tonight.

Its cooled down here now which is better for Aiden, yesterday when he got up after his afternoon sleep he was so sweaty! He keeps getting his legs stuck in the cot bars too!

    xx

Thanks Kira! Are the nursery happy for her to do baby led weaning rather than the 'usual' purees etc?

Hi, Sorry for delayed reply- teething baby not sleeping long enough to get on!!
The nursery we are using is fine with it- all their meals are cooked on site, and i can say puree, mash or whole, so she will basically be having what the toddlers have. It is something to check though when selecting nurseries, as not all of them are so accommodating. You need to make sure that they KNOW about BLW as well, i.e. that she cant be left alone with food, and they mustnt put food in her mouth. Its easy for the to say fine, but not really understand what that means.. Its the same for reusable nappies, not all places will use them (if thats something you are interested in!).
