Thanks wendz, jacob is exactly the same as your little one. We are thinking of trying to stop the feeding to sleep in the next month or so by putting him down awake and doing contolled crying.

  • BlueMonkey - We sometimes have similar probs with Ella, fussy evenings, not going to sleep apart from boob/cuddles etc. There isn't one sure fire thing that works, as she does seem to be a bit different every day but swaddling helps her to calm down for sleeping so may be worth a try. She also likes white noise which I tried after looking at the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD/book (along with the swaddling). The Dr who wrote that believes in the 4th trimester which someone else mentioned, so it;s all about trying to recreate the womb feeling/noises. She also has a dummy although is a bit hit and miss with it, especially as she often uses it to just get to sleep then spits it out ans wakes herself up again!

With the fussy evenings, I mentioned a few pages ago that it could be cluster feeding, where they try and stock up so feels like they are feeding constantly, but could also be worth a try for you?

After my amazing 7 hour sleep last night, I'm not expecting her to be as good tonight as she has been very fussy this evening, we shall see.

I got the book and the CD for Christmas and it is really interesting. I think the techniques definitely work although we are not using swaddling as LO likes her arms free.

Thanks for the comments and advice (including those I haven't quoted). HV is referring me to the Post Natal Team for support. It really is getting on top of me at times, I'm sick of crying now and just want to enjoy my baby. I see my GP again in a week and I think I am going to ask to go back on medication as I feel as though I can't relax and appreciate having LO. Jen I know what you mean about feeling overwhelmed!

I know some people are saying their babies are sleeping though the night and I'm just wondering what you do about changing nappies? My LO needs changing every 3-4 hours otherwise she leaks. I've tried Huggies and Pampers and both are the same. Last night I changed her at 9 and at 1am I was lying in bed debating waking her up to change her or whether to chance it and hope she didn't leak. I erred on the side of caution and decided to change her, and the of course had to feed and wind. Sod's Law her nappy was virtually dry. If I had left it she would have soaked thought and I would have had to change her and the crib.

I have this problem with dd when she is in sposies rather than real nappies (which we use when away for the day or longer). I know the nappies can hold more fluid as i've seen them close to exploding without leaking before so I can only guess its more to do with the fit. Not found another solution to changing in the night though so have tended since to take reals with us just for night time wear when away - bit of a faff but easier than worrying about wet beds.

    Hi,

Not sure if you'll all remember me but I was on the pregnancy thread and recognise a lot of the names on here :)

Would someone please add me to the list? I've tried to do it but the little girl / boy symbols don't copy across :(

My little boy, Finlay, was born on October 19th and is now almost 12 weeks old. It's gone so quickly!!!

Not read the full thread yet, so will go back and read and comment :)

    Hope you're all ok,

Just been reading the posts about weight loss. Don't know if people remember but I had hyperemeisis throughout my pregnancy and was sick every day for almost the whole 9 months, even whilst I was in labour :( However, this has had the unexpected bonus of meaning I am now almost 3 stone lighter than the day I found out I was pregnant :j I was 13st 8lbs and am now 10st 10lbs :) My mam reckons it's karma for having had an horrendous pregnancy!

Regarding the maternity pads, I bought the kotex night time sanitary towels (as recommended by my midwife at our antenatal classes). They were just like the maternity pads I bought from Tesco but half the price :)

    Wonder Womble,

Sorry to hear you are having such a rough time :( Does your hospital offer a counselling service about the birth? I know ours does, but your baby needs to be 6 weeks old before you can request an appointment. I'm going to go to ours as my birth did not go to plan at all and I was a bit shell-shocked by everything. When I spoke to one of our community midwives she said she would recommend going to something like this as soon as you can so any issues you might have with the birth can be discussed and you don't dwell on them and turn them into bigger issues. I might not be expressing myself very well so bear with me..

Finlay is my first baby and I'd planned a nice, calm water birth. What I got was an induced birth and a 2 day labour that ended up with a failed ventouse and eventually forceps as Finn's heart rate kept dropping and the doctors were very concerned about this. Following the birth I was very upset about how it had gone (although delighted with my baby!) I'm really scared that if (when) I have another baby I will have a similar experience and that is enough to make me think twice about having another baby, but I really want more than one child so I know I need to deal with this. The midwife recommended I go to the counselling sessions now, not when I next get pregnant, as then I will deal with any issues I have about giving birth and won't feel so panicky about it.

Finn's 12 weeks old now and I'm planning to make an appointment with our counselling team in the next few weeks. I don't feel like crying when I think about the birth (I did when he was smaller) and I'm starting to think about the possibility of another baby, although not for a while yet. I'm rambling now but what I'm trying to say is that I've found that my fears and feelings about the birth have changed over the weeks and I'm feeling more optimistic about any future births being different from this one.

    Take care WW,

New born nappies - Finn was 8lb 7oz at birth and we used size 1 nappies until he was about 7 weeks old as he is long and quite slender. He's 12 weeks old now and still in size 2s.

I had loads of huggies nappies but didn't get on well with them as they kept leaking so now I use a mixture of Asda / Tesco / Morrisons own brand (I like the Asda ones the best but there isn't a big Asda by me).

We don't change Finn during the night. He goes to sleep at about 11 and I change him then and he doesn't need changing again until he wakes up at about 8 ish.
