Smlsave - I have to admit that Poppy still feeds to sleep a lot of the time which i really need to change before i go back to work. She will self settle most the time when i first put her to bed at night, think its probably due to having a bedtime routine but i often feed her back to sleep in the night although she will sometimes be cuddled back to sleep. During the day i really struggle without feeding her.

Fosters - i agree with Giz it definately gets easier. It is nice when they learn to do things and can play by themselves etc. Even though Poppy still wakes in the night I find it loads easier.

Hopefully won't be too long before I can join you all as I have found the pregnancy threads a great support and know that this one will be fab too :)
Interesting claire that your bubs liked the rainforest noise and the washing machine!! Will be trying out these things if it hits the fan!!!

    Ro xx

Seriously, the washing machine was a life saver to me in the early days lol It never failed to calm her and send her over to sleep after a few minutes! She has never liked the quiet and will sleep better when there is something going on. I remember reading that the womb is a really noisy place so it makes sense really. You'll see what works for your wee one when they're here- good luck with the birth x

Hi can I join please? I gave birth to a little boy called Nathaniel, 7lb 5oz on 5th December, so he is 5 weeks old on monday. He is my first child, after a long battle to get pregnant so me and hubby are thrilled.

I am just reading through the thread now and am already picking up great tips and information so thank you.

    My tips:
    1. For pregnancy: Read up on c-section recovery, just in case you end up having an emergency c-sec like I did. No-one tells you anything so the recover has been a big shock to me, obviously I understand its major surgery but the midwives/nct even friends hadn't told me how bad it is, how painful, and how to handle it.
    2. Breastfeeding: eat often and don't worry to much if it is high in fat as it helps the milk production. My milk wasn't very good for 2 weeks, then after a midwife asked what I ate she said you are not eating enough, and once I increased my intake within 2 days my boobs felt very full!
    3. Book recommendation: Baby whisperer - its been working well for me and my son so far, it sort of gives you a little plan to work to but its not set in stone, its called the easy plan and it means: Eat, Activity, Sleep, Your time. We do that through the day, altho we don't worry about it if we go out of the house, but this has worked well and gives me some 'me' time too, which really helps.

  • Evening! Hope you are all ok.

Amy's doing well - she woke up twice last night :-) My weights almost completely dropped off (YEY!!!!) but ive pigged out this afternoon (Film and munchies!) and now feeling very bad about it.

Feeding is getting easier - boobs no longer hurting. Have started to had express and freeze the milk ready for when I want to stop feeding (I only managed 3 months with DD1)

DD1 is being a little madam but hey ho i guess its a learning curve for her.

    Hope your all ok x

Mimi I can't talk to you....you've lost your weight already?! Jealous!!

Hi everyone (even skinny Mimi!). I have read back but can't remember! Too much to catch up on! It's a very popular thread...go Kira!

My little lad is doing well. He still isn't a fab sleeper but like Wendz said, I already find it easier as he'll play by himself a bit now. I still live in baby sick chaos but I'm slightly less frazzled by it.

Missy - sorry I can't help. Does your LO settle and feed ok after the initial puke? Maybe it's just her way? As long as weight gain is ok it's prob nothing to worry about, although a bit of a nuisance I appreciate.

In desperation I bought something called Ewan the easi dream sheep and OMG it works! It's 4 different White noises that you choose from and it lasts 20 mins. Ewan is turned on for every sleep and if LO struggles to settle at night I switch him on once. It's brill. I got Ewan from flea-bay. Believe me, I tried all sorts and for whatever reason this works.

I've also always, from about 8 weeks put LO down awake, albeit often sleepy. It's really helped with him being able to settle himself. I now know that if he won't settle it's because there's a reason such as wind, hunger or nappy etc.

Also I've always (from week 2) had a bedtime routine of bath, feed (now massage) then bed. My LO always goes down perfectly. My trouble is that he won't feed enough (because of reflux probs) to satisfy his hunger to sleep longer than an average of 4 hours. I've had a couple of 6 hour stretches but they're not so common. I genuinely believe that if he fed enough he'd sleep through much better. Hoping that this will improve in time.

    Hope this helps
