MSE Newborn to 1 year Baby Club 1

Seb is hovering around the 0 line, which panics all the health professionals, and he looks more like a newborn. But he seems very long but he has no fat and a big head. When I see other babies they look massive and fat, we do combination feed to try to bulk him up, but it takes him an hour to feed 4oz in a bottle, bf take around that long most times too. The last oz takes ages, it is hard to decide how much to give him, he should have much more for his age, but struggling to finish the amount for his weight. I'm tempted to drop it to 3oz but give him an extra feed to see if it encourages him to drink faster, but as he is so small I just worry about changing it. Anyone have experience with this?:ANeeding to save all the money, lots of MSE learning still to do

Hi Carmilla
Have you tried using a fast flow teat? When Ava 1st went from breast to bottle she was only taking 1.5oz and going to sleep. MW advised using a fast flow teat, we have tommee tippee bottles and they do a variflow for 0+ months which helped.0 -
Cam, I have to get a 9, 7 and 3 yr old ready as well as the baby.....dont panic, if ur late, ur late! Take the pressure off urself for the first week at least by telling ur friend u wont walk with her, that way, if ur a few mins late, u can rush with just ur 2, and not feel stressed she is waiting! I think u`ll prob have to play each day by ear, if u know baby will be due a feed between 8-9, then maybe give it a top up to keep going until u get back and can give a proper feed? I`m not sure how long breastfeeding takes as i bottle feed. If Flynn is due a feed anytime between 8.15-9.15, i give it to him early, or enough so he isnt screaming all the way home! Good luck! x
Thanks for reassuring mexxx I'm lucky my five year old will sort himself out if his uniform is set out etc, it's just Oliver has been waking at 8:30 for a feed which takes almost 20 mins, so il try n wake him up 40 mins earlier and see how that goes.
It just came to me last night omg how am I gonna get there on time?Ds2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j

Lilymay, i hope ur lil one is ok after the bump xx
Ro, Not so much having trouble, but, the straps around Flynns waist are tight already! Theres only space to fit a few fingers in?? I cant find any proof of purchase either? Altho I guess as I ordered online and have an account they`d see i purchased it from them! Will Have a look online later to see if theres some where to complain lol! x
Cam, I`d second the advise about asking a friend to take lil one if u can, and then if u r ready, then go with, if not, then no worries! x
Carmilla, What bottles r u using? TT variflow teats work best, if u get fast flow and baby isnt ready its just gonna pour into the mouth and pour out the sides lol! What ever brand bottle ur using, they should do variflow teats, just get 1 pack and try them. Anything is worth a shot if it helps. Flynn was taking 40 mins to take 2 oz until i got the new teats, now he can do 3 oz in 5 mins! Good luckx
thegreenroom, Flynn is sleeping in his pram in the day time, but will prob go up into his cot once he doesn fit in that anymore. xMummy to 3 beautiful GIRLS, 9, 7 and 3,and a handsome lil BOY 03.03.12 :T

Emmylou- Scott on little side but might have to get daddy to have a check on the straps!
Carmilla- we have always been paranoid around LO 's weight but he is just about tracking 9th, is still slow with feeding but if he is hungry properly will speed up. Looking back think that he was tired as was having to suck more doing both breast and bottle. Kira suggested tongue tie to me as was having difficulty bf at times, but don't know that was an issue as by that time ended up just bf in the night and morning as he started to reject breast. If you are worried then seek advice from specialists, the advice re the faster tests sounds good but have no experience. But just to add to confusion have found that LO was slower with tommee tippee bottles than avent ! Also found he was more comfortable being fed lying on a sloped cushion than being held when bottle feeding and breast.0 -
Doh, change the teat size! Thanks for the idea, I completely didn't think of that, I will try it for his afternoon feed and let you know how it goes.:ANeeding to save all the money, lots of MSE learning still to do

My son will return back to school on Monday he's five at the end of the month, oh goes to work at 7:30 and we have a two week old baby, so its all on me really to be ready to get son to school for 8:50am and I'm thinking how the hell am I gonna be on time lol I walk with a friend with her lil boy and have to be ready to set off at 8:30am, I'm also breast feeding so should I wake my baby up an hour before to feed him?
I have a 7 year old at school and a 3 year old who goes to the school nursery 2.5 days a week along with my 5 and a half month baby. Believe me when I tell you that you WILL DO IT!! Be super organised. Do baths, lunchboxes, bags, any equipment/sports kits and uniform etc the night before so all your little one has to do is get up, have breakfast, brush teeth and get dressed. Then you can concentrate on the baby. I used to make sure DS3 had a feed before we went but if he had one at, say 6.30am, and we left at 8.30am I would just scoop him up and put him in the pram sleeping bag and all! If he screams for a feed it's not the end of the world. And it goes get better I promise. Good luck xxThank you to everyone for sharing competitions!0 -

Il get oh to prep ds1's breakfast when he does his own that's one less job for me, all I have to do is to tell him to get his uniform on.
Wish me luck for Monday but I'm also excited about taking my son back to school and him holding on to the pushchair as we walk to school with his new brother:T
I'm a fairly organised person anyways but even a trip to tesco yesterday was like a military operation lol I don't find it scary I just had to remember what I needed with me.
Where as my friend just can't cope doing anything on her own with her two children and always rings someone to spend the day with her whilst her oh is working?
I'm a very proud person I love baking and playing with my ds1 ATM that is lol but she does nothing with her two and just sticks them infront of the babysitter (tv) :eek:Ds2 born 3/4/12 8lbs 8.5:j

With DD3 i used a knife! Didnt even bother to buy variflow as she was 8 weeks b4 i needed a bigger hole lol. As Flynn was only 4 days, i thought I best do it properly lol. Flynn struggles with Avent, and so did DD1. I find the teat too thick? Mam are supposed to be very good tho.
Oh yes, Flynn often goes to school in his pjs and about 5 blankets as i havent even had time to get his coat out! Its lovely the first time u take the baby to schoolxx
