Morning all. Been a bit of a flurry of posts since I was last on, good to hear from everyone.

Good luck with the check Lucy.

I was reading the bits about sick earlier and thinking how lucky I was that LO is rarely sick. I didn't even say it out loud (that's usually the cue for her to do what we don't want so we've stopped saying things like she's gone to sleep as she instantly wakes up!) but she still treated me to quite literally a handful. Yuk!

Kira, wow. Both on the sleep and the size of CJ. Keep having to remind myself that she is less than 24 hours older than my munchkin, who is not yet at 11lbs nor grown into her 0-3 month stuff yet, we have plenty of leg room going spare. I know you've put it on fb, but what sleep training are you using? May well be worth doing as LO seems to have the idea of sleep and does long ones, rarely waking me more than once a night (she likes 3.30am) but more nights going through would be wonderful...

Jannine - I think someone else mentioned wind, and that was the first thing that sprang to my mind. We do some feeds of expressed milk from bottles, DH does it when I kick him out of bed so I can have lie-ins on the weekend, and she takes in loads of air during that and is uncomfortable until she does the most impressive burps. No other bright ideas, sorry.

    Hello All

Typed a big post and then it dissapeared...grrr

Re the moses/crib - my LO is almost 10lb now and 4.5 weeks old, although he doesnt look that big all his weight is in his length as he is quite a long baby so I reckon by 12 weeks at the latest he will be in his cot :(

Are you all planning on then putting baby in thier own room at this point? I'll miss him being so close to me :(

I wonder if anyone can offer any advice on increasing the amount of formula, Aiden is probably over 10lb now as I last got him weighed last Monday. He currently has 4oz every 3.5-4 hours. OH thinks we should increase to 5, but I dont want to if he doesnt need it, if you see what I mean? We had some reflux problems which we have just got under control so I dont want to make him sick again with too much milk. I see my HV next Tuesday for baby clinic so I could always ask her, also does anyone know if HV can write prescriptions - I was going to see if we could get Coleif on prescription, I am finding it just brilliant for Aiden but my gosh it is pricey for the teeny bottle and we are using 1 per week.

Final thing - anyone with a LO with a tongue tie? Aiden has one which they noticed when they discharged us from Hosp after birth, they said they will leave it for now as he is feeding fine etc. But we have noticed he seems to take in a little more air than some other newborns and he sucks really hard on the teats, sometimes they go inside and we have to take it out and wait for it to pop back out. We werent sure if the tongue tie is making him take in a bit more air and causing a bit of his colic...I am sure I read somewhere that one of the posters on here had thier LO's snipped?

Sorry for the mammoth post - he is asleep so thought I would take advantage :)

    Enjoy your days xxx

    Hi Sunshine.

Personally I'm planning on rearranging our room a little as the cot should fit (even if DH has very little room to get out of bed his side!) and keeping her in with us for the moment, especially as it makes it easier for night feeds. If it doesn't fit then she'll have to go next door with the monitor and I'll have to cope!

Is LO still hungry after feeds? Don't know about formula, but if he still seems hungry then perhaps offer a little more and see if he takes it without incident.

I can't remember who on here had a tongue tie baby, maybe Kira? My best friend has had two babes with it, one worse than the other. Both were cut and it made a big difference to feeding after. I think you should speak to your GP about it as it can affect speech later too, but it does depend on severity. Also I don't think the HV can prescribe so may want to ask GP about colief at the same time.

It's very peaceful here as LO is napping. My parents are coming over shortly though so my calm afternoon is about to disappear.

Kira's LO had a snipped tongue tie, plus one or two others I think. I never realised how common it is until I saw several people on here talking about it!

Elliot's still got his tongue tie, I think attitudes to tongue ties vary depending on where you are. The GP and HV weren't concerned about Elliot's one and said it is likely to stretch anyway as he gets older, but to get it checked if we were worried about him feeding or with speech later on. Elliot's not had any feeding problems so we haven't done anything about it yet. He does have very strong suction though, tends to collapse the teats on bottles. Not sure if that's because he's mostly breast fed and just has to suck harder to get anything??

One of my adult friends still has his tongue tie and it hadn't caused him any problems, though he did point out that it made it difficult to french kiss :rotfl:

We're going to move the cot into our room when he moves out of his moses basket, but we're lucky enough to have a huge bedroom so there's plenty of space for it :D (the disadvantage of huge bedroom being that we have a downstairs bathroom, but it's worth it).

Think it must be major growth spurt time for Elliot, up every 2 hours last night again for quite a long feed each time. Hope he goes back to his 6 hour sleeps soon!

Hi sunshine. We had to go to the GP to get our colief. They prescribed it no problem but i know some docs are iffy about prescribing it due to cost. Push for it.

If baby is almost finishing his feeds Id up to 5oz for a few days just to see how he gets on, can always readjust again if it doesnt work out. Although if he is going 3.5-4 hours between feeds Id say thats an ideal amount.

I've got no plans to move baby to his own room yet, mainly because he doesn't have one! So he'll be in with me until either we move, or someone'll be sleeping in the living room.

He's having a sicky day or two again, he seems to do it a lot more here than at Daddy's house. Dunno if it is coincidence, the dust or pollen here, or because the house is relatively cooler? He still needs his first jabs, but seems constantly snuffly and sicky. Think i'll have to go for a chat about it, as I assume it isn't a 3 month long cold?

Best go get my only clean bed sheet out of the dryer. Not only is it always here, it's always on me or my bedding!

    Hiya,
not been on here for a while so I'm sure I've missed loads.
Sunshine both mine had tongue ties but were cut at 11 hours and 3 days old as i was breast feeding. both times it was a quick snip with sharp scissors. no anthestic and no fuss from either baby. I can't see a reason why not to have the tongue tie cut, if it's causing a problem.
as for upping formula, i would make the bottles with an extra oz in them and let baby take what he wants. I think I encouraged Daniel to take too much (as he was underweight) and we have had problems with him bringing the milk back out. So maybe leave it up to baby how much he wants?

hope everyone's enjoying a bit of sunshine today!!

Oh, at 3 months he's still got maybe 6 inches left in the moses basket, despite being big. However, he's started trying to throw himself forward into a sitting position when I lie him at an angle, so he might be out of it because he sits up rather than getting too big!

    Hi Ladies,

Well I had a chat with the Children's Nurse that comes to check on Poppy about the sickness and being uncomfortable during feeding and she thinks I need to start weaning her! She said they always recommend you start earlier than usual with prem babies as they have high nutritional needs.

She suggested we start once a day with fruit and vegetables. Going to mash a banana up for tea and try her with that. Also got hubby to pick up a selection of fruit and veg baby pots from Boots and some weaning spoons! Going to be a messy night I think!

Just had my second giggle from her, I popped my head over her moses basket and said 'boo!' she giggled her little head off!! She looks so funny bless her, still the size of a new-born but doing things that older babies do! :rotfl:
