Good luck to you and Ellie today Jen. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you all, including Jade :) xxxxx

Well seems stupid to post this when Jen is going through such a rough time, but I'll keep you all abreast of my situation. Got given infant gaviscon yesterday, seemed to work great during the day, but the minute it came to night time (his usual time for the reflux being worse) it was unbearable, so we phoned the out of hours GP and were told "give him calpol" ?!?!?! he's 3 weeks old and has reflux, so no I don't think that'l help, so as advised by the GP phoned the hospital who basically said "we're really busy, don't come down here, as all we'l do is refer him back to the GP anyway"

So after another night of no sleep at all, we phoned the GP's this morning, got offered a phone consultation 2 hours later and they asked us to bring him in straight away as he wasn't feeding at all last night  took him in and basically told "he has colic" even though we can hear the acid rising in his throat. By this point I was getting extremely irrate as it's been 2 weeks of no sleep for me and OH, and severe pain for Aaron. So now we're home with a prescription for ranitidine and SMA Stay Down milk.

I just hope this will help my little mister, honestly, I'm at my wits end and he is in agony. He's finally conked out, even though he's starving, in his car seat, and I'm not taking him out of it at the moment, as he looks so peaceful cosied up with Ewan the dream sheep.

Got a review appointment on Tuesday, and if it's not sorted by then I'm demanding to be referred to a pediatrician.
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

Just wanted to add my experience of DD1.....she was a terrible baby, never slept, always screamed, have nasty eczema on her face, was always constipated and failed to thrive (weight was on the 9th percentile at 4 months after being born on the 50th). At 18 weeks, she hadnt opened her bowels for 7 days and hadnt taken any milk at all for 3 days. The Dr admitted her to hospital as she had a temperature and he thought she may have some sort of ear/throat/urine infection. Basically, her temperature was caused by the constipation, the eczema had almost disappeared on day 3 of no milk, and after I asked for something to help her poo, she was fine! We were discharged, and went home to carry on as normal.....until 4 days later when we were back to square one. I noticed that her ezcema was back, and after 2 days of no milk again, it went. I asked my HV ( who was amazing!) to refer us to a dietician as there r food allergies in DH family. We saw the dietician and had allergy tests just a week later! They all came back "inconclusive" too! The dietician was brilliant, and her words were "altho we cant determine if ur daughter has any dairy allergies, if u were to go and purchase soya milk off of ur own back, hats ur choice...." So we did. We never looked back, within a month her weight was up to the 75th percentile, she was sleeping thru the night, her eczema was gone, she could poo properly, she was such a happy and different (in a good way!) baby! The reflux she had suffered from since 2 weeks old went too.
When i had DD2, i refused point blank to give her normal milk, and she was put onto Soya milk, as advised by the Dr, due to the experience with DD1. We had allergy tests with her and she was egg white, wheat and dairy intolerant. She was fine, never had a problem, until she hit 2 and a half yrs old and we found that actually there are links with soya milk in newborns/infants and hormone problems in later life. She has some of these problems. She does have problems digesting red meat, and wheat products. last yr the dr referred DD2 back to the hosp for further dairy tests. There never used to be a test for dairy INTOLERANCE there is now.....its totally to ALLERGY tests. This new one, they have to be nil by mouth for 12 hours, drink a lactose drink, then breath into a machine every 20 mins for 3 hours. ( I actually walked out of the test due to the incompetence of the staff so we never got as far as drinking the drink tho!)
I guess I just wanted to say that just because someone says ur child cant have a dairy allergy as they dont have "frothy poo" doesnt mean they dont have it. There are 2 main factors in dairy they can have reactions too. Then there is the fact it could be an intolerance rather than an allergy!
DD3 was put straight onto a Hypoallergenic formula, wasnt allowed any dairy at all for the 1st 12 months on advise of yet another specialist we saw. it was the best thing ever, she was always above the 91st percentile, and has never had any reaction at all to foods.
This bump, we are at a diff hosp, and they will not prescibe me the hypoallergenic stuff. They have however agreed to see us as soon as i feel there is a prob (basically can prove baby is intolerant) Which is fair enough. I am not prepared to be left waiting for weeks tho, and have purchased Lactofree milk myself.

Sorry for the ramble!! Gilly, the formula u r using which one is it? Maybe try the lactofree stuff for a while to give babes tummy a rest?

Well done if anyone did actually read my ramblings haha!!! Its just something i feel so strongly about as we had to fight so many people for the best for our girls!!! xx

I noticed a bit of bleeding on my pad this morning- not had any red blood for maybe 3 weeks. Im still 100% bf; no more than 5hrs between feeds, usually 2hrs, 15 or so feeds per day. Its only 6 weeks since birth so seems early to be period given the bf. t if not that then why blood again now?

Jenjade I totally echo Flower's sentiments, your family are all coming to visit mostly to show support for you and to probably offer any help they can think of, definitely not to say goodbye to Ellie. Your little girl is clearly a strong lady just like her mummy so they will be already planning her first birthday party, first day at nursery, and probably even her first day at school in their heads.

Aimless the hand chewing and gagging was constant. The wheezing and coughing happened from she went to bed at night to aproximately 1 hour after waking in the morning. Initially the vomiting was constant for us, but were were feeding cows milk formula to a dairy intolerant baby so that isnt an accurate reflection of reflux. When on Neocate it tends to be that she wont be sick for days and day, even up to a week at times, but when it starts it can go on into the second day of constant vomiting. When my younger son was diagnosed eventually the consultant told me that this is very typical of reflux. The vomiting happens when there is simply too much acid for the body to tolerate. When the vomiting stops it will stop for a few days as all of the acid has gone and is being replaced.

Gilly the bestb advice I can give is just to keep going back and back and back yet again to your doctor until they either get it right or refer you on to somebody who can. It took 7 months for my daughter to be seen at hospital asshe is a particularly large baby so her symptoms really werent taken very seriously. I wish I had done so much more complaining much sooner.

WW soya formula is currently not allowed for babies under 1 due to the hormonal imbalance that it is believed to cause, and children under 2 are not supposed to have any soya product either for the same reason. Lacto free is still a cows milk based formula without lactose. SMA do a lacto free formula in a 400mg tin which can be bought over the counter, it used to have a green lid as we tried it for our younger son...unfortunately we have recently discovered that they are both casein intolerant too so it didnt make a blind bit of difference for him. As he was gaining weight and reaching all the developmental milestones his symptoms were never of great concern to our former GP so we were just left to get on with it. For babies who are dairy intolerant they tend to prescribe Nutramigen as a first line treatment. If this doesnt have any success then Neocate tends to be prescribed. There are further formulas available but I dont know anything about them as we were lucky enough to have our daughter settle on Neocate.

Jen have already commented on FB but thinking off you both.

Kira (tmi) i had a bit of blood this week and did put a pad on but nothing else happen but it was after going for a number 2 tho but everything seems ok!

Got erinna weighed today and has gained 4 1/2 ozs. Hv wanted to get her weighed again next week as shes near the 25th centile line. I'm not concered too much as she seem to be feeding fine and surely if she wasn't she would be crying all the time and not sleep well. And i'm petite, so is OH so think erinna will just be small.

Just what Koala said :D so far i have only found the lactofree stuff in Boots. The Nutramigin is generally only advised if prescribed, however u can purchase it at around £9.80 (3 yrs ago) for he small tins. Lactofree is £5.60 a small tine atm. When we had DD2 there was no advise regarding Soya and newborns/under 2s, so we didnt know any different until BIL son was diagnosed as lactose intolerant and they were told about hormone probs etc. When they make nutramigin, it is still cows milk, but when its "processed" the lactase enzyme is removed. Also.... with regards to Soya milk, some children with dairy allergies are intolerant to Soya too :/ x

Kira with DS1 I got my first period at 5 weeks postnatal even though he were BF'ing exclusively and they continued as normal from there on, DS2 is 25weeks also BF and I am still waiting for them to kick in, our bodies are mysteries sometimes!

Thanks ladies, this is my next option in relation to LO's eczema, vomiting and mucus.
