Hope you are ok jen
Its good to hear that aaron is feeling better gilly :-)
Mozzy, i completly forgot to say last time that i used to squish my brea.st into the same shape aand direction as jacobs mouth to get my nipple in far enough to get him to suck. He is slightly tongue tied and this really helped, might help you too kira? If you want to get his tongue snipped then i would suggest going private to get it done, the nhs can be really unhelpful with tongue tie. It costs 75pound here to get done.
Thanks hon. I do sometimes do that already when she gets tired or stressed out and it helps a bit.
Heard back from my hv today and she has been given permission to refer us to the hospital- not sure if that is for examination and assessment or for treatment but will wait and see. Only snag is that it is at the evil horror place we ended up in when lo was rushed in. If we knew it needed doing we would pay to go private just to avoid the place...Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Hi!! Yeh sorry, been awol. Having a bit of a nightmare with my baby boy. Since yesterday he just won't settle.Had about 2hrs sleep last night and about 3hrs night before. He keeps waking up and starts screaming and won't calm down for ages. We've fed him, winded him, changed nappy, cuddled.......he's just not a happy chappy. His temp is ok and midwives today checked him over and reckon he's fine. He's an avid hand sucker too!! And if his hands aren't searching out his mouth, they're clawing at his eyes.
But we're still learning as parents, so am sure there's a rational reason for him being so unsettled.
Feeding wise, he won't latch. Midwife tried with me today too. He seems horrified by the breast lol. But as soon as I put on a nipple shield, problem solved. So for now, instead of giving up, i'm doing that. And if he isn't getting enough, we're topping him up with SMA first milk.
We've just topped and tailed him, he was screaming throughout, so have just swaddled him and put him in his bed, and all quiet for now. At least his little hands aren't causing trouble. We've had socks and mittens on them today, but neither last!
Hey Mozzy, our LO had a terrible time sleeping at first and would be up all night until about 5am. Her body clock was all to pot and she had night and day mixed up. We worked on slowly keeping her awake for longer during the day and it took about two weeks to change her sleep pattern around.
Have you got any sleep suits with the fold over cuffs? I found these a huge help and so much better than scratch mitts, in fact the scratch mitts have never been used!
I had trouble BF too and found I had more success with nipple shields.I have the Health Visitor tomorrow and I cannot wait to tell her that he has reflux, and that he wasn't just bored, yes my HV told me to stick one of his baby cards in the side of his pram and that would entertain him when he was screaming  Great advice...
Seriously??? I don't have a lot of faith in MWs or HVs. I'm sure there are some great ones out there, but my sister has struggled with my niece for over 18 months and each time she went to the HV she was told 'Oh it's normal .....' My niece has just been diagnosed as lactose intolerant which explains her crying, screaming and the pain she has suffered for 18 months  I guess my advice is if you are worried and not satisfied with the info/advice from your HV, see your GP and keep going back until you are satisfied.
Hoping Jen and Ellie are ok, they have been on my mind a lot today.0 -
Just wanted to add my experience of DD1.....she was a terrible baby, never slept, always screamed, have nasty eczema on her face, was always constipated and failed to thrive (weight was on the 9th percentile at 4 months after being born on the 50th). At 18 weeks, she hadnt opened her bowels for 7 days and hadnt taken any milk at all for 3 days. The Dr admitted her to hospital as she had a temperature and he thought she may have some sort of ear/throat/urine infection. Basically, her temperature was caused by the constipation, the eczema had almost disappeared on day 3 of no milk, and after I asked for something to help her poo, she was fine! We were discharged, and went home to carry on as normal.....until 4 days later when we were back to square one. I noticed that her ezcema was back, and after 2 days of no milk again, it went. I asked my HV ( who was amazing!) to refer us to a dietician as there r food allergies in DH family. We saw the dietician and had allergy tests just a week later! They all came back "inconclusive" too! The dietician was brilliant, and her words were "altho we cant determine if ur daughter has any dairy allergies, if u were to go and purchase soya milk off of ur own back, hats ur choice...." So we did. We never looked back, within a month her weight was up to the 75th percentile, she was sleeping thru the night, her eczema was gone, she could poo properly, she was such a happy and different (in a good way!) baby! The reflux she had suffered from since 2 weeks old went too.
When i had DD2, i refused point blank to give her normal milk, and she was put onto Soya milk, as advised by the Dr, due to the experience with DD1. We had allergy tests with her and she was egg white, wheat and dairy intolerant. She was fine, never had a problem, until she hit 2 and a half yrs old and we found that actually there are links with soya milk in newborns/infants and hormone problems in later life. She has some of these problems. She does have problems digesting red meat, and wheat products. last yr the dr referred DD2 back to the hosp for further dairy tests. There never used to be a test for dairy INTOLERANCE there is now.....its totally to ALLERGY tests. This new one, they have to be nil by mouth for 12 hours, drink a lactose drink, then breath into a machine every 20 mins for 3 hours. ( I actually walked out of the test due to the incompetence of the staff so we never got as far as drinking the drink tho!)
I guess I just wanted to say that just because someone says ur child cant have a dairy allergy as they dont have "frothy poo" doesnt mean they dont have it. There are 2 main factors in dairy they can have reactions too. Then there is the fact it could be an intolerance rather than an allergy!
DD3 was put straight onto a Hypoallergenic formula, wasnt allowed any dairy at all for the 1st 12 months on advise of yet another specialist we saw. it was the best thing ever, she was always above the 91st percentile, and has never had any reaction at all to foods.
This bump, we are at a diff hosp, and they will not prescibe me the hypoallergenic stuff. They have however agreed to see us as soon as i feel there is a prob (basically can prove baby is intolerant) Which is fair enough. I am not prepared to be left waiting for weeks tho, and have purchased Lactofree milk myself.
Sorry for the ramble!! Gilly, the formula u r using which one is it? Maybe try the lactofree stuff for a while to give babes tummy a rest?
Well done if anyone did actually read my ramblings haha!!! Its just something i feel so strongly about as we had to fight so many people for the best for our girls!!! xxMummy to 3 beautiful GIRLS, 9, 7 and 3,and a handsome lil BOY 03.03.12 :T

Yes, seriously  She is very old fashioned but come on, I mentioned about the inability to lay flat etc and was palmed off completely.
And 18 months? I'd want blood, there is no need for that whatsoever. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
We were using Aptamil Comfort Emmy, which is more broken down and less lactose, but because it's already thicker consistency, we've went back to the normal Aptamil to mix with the Gaviscon, so far no problems, but the GP was brilliant and told us to come back if we even suspect it isn't working and they would start us on prescribed formula. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0
