Hmm the plot thickens here! What Aventurine describes could be my baby! She grunts, wriggles, clears her throat, always sicks up after a feed, wants to feed lots, about 5 lots of hiccups a day, mucousy nose etc. Once last night I heard her waking up with a choking cough. The increased wakings
So Gilly if she has more feeds in the day, technically she should wake up less at night? (the midwife seemed to suggest that might be the case when she came in the first few weeks - said as long as she had plenty in the day then she would need less at night and not to wake her up) - if I offered it to her she would constantly take it, I've never ever seen her refuse being fed!
Ooh I might hang fire on the bottle tonight and see if I can speak to the HV tomorrow.
Thanks for your help. I think I'd decided on the Cow and Gate ready mixed milk if we do have a night feed bottle. Does anyone use the ready mixed stuff?
Yes, well in my experience anyway, but I only have the one so I'm by no means an expert. But I found that when he did start sleeping better over night he wasn't taking any more milk at all, he was just taking more milk during the day, and less at night. So I think he was still having 6 bottles but maybe 5 during waking hours and 1 at night.
However, if it's the reflux that is waking her, it's highly unlikely any amount of milk during the day will helpI'd definitely go to the GP about it. I definitely found the reflux much worse at night here and he just found it really difficult to settle, even when he was formula fed he would feed every hour, just to cool the burning down. xx
P.s we have only moved onto normal dairy formula there, I am using the ready made ones as he only has 1/2 feeds a day.so I imagine if you are only using them once a day or less it'd be ok and easier than having a whole tub of formula sitting you won't get through before the 4 week deadline x

It's outrageous. Freddie's in bed, the OH is out, and I'm just sat here literally inhaling food."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I'm being good, but I'm sat here thinking about food, I have been since 5 o clock, and I've had my dinner. I usually have a cup of coffee after dinner but I can't even trust myself to have one without a biscuit. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

Thanks gilly & dizzi. Going to the GP tomorrow about possible reflux before we try bottles. I thought the ready made stuff would be ok/ not too expensively if it's just one feed a day but I agree - very expensive if full feeds each day!
Ok I'm also stuffing my face!0 -
I keep frozen home-made veggie soup in the freezer for days when I can't stop eating, on the logic that nobody ever got fat off five bowls of veggie soup! Having said that, I've eaten most of a packet of chocolate digestives today going "it's good for my milk"!0

Moneypenny, I use ready stuff when we are out and powder at home. I read in some book that ready made formula is better digested, but I cannot afford it. I am currently using a box of powder a week, so about £40 a month, the ready made stuff would be around £100! My lo had some mild silent reflux, she still grunts and has some occasional prospecting, plus she's a bit mucousy. I saw a huge improvement by keeping her upright in the carrier after a feed. I tried Gaviscon and although it thickened her stools it did not constipated her. The HV recommended to give her one oz of cooled boiled water, only an ounce, not more, to aid in case of constipation. We have stopped giving it to her because she doesn't seem to need it anymore. We also feed her quite upright, not completely sat straight but not below 45degrees. We used to prop her moses up with books at the head end. She We also tried comfort.milk but smelt rank! My baby used to stink with it lol We have moved back to the normal one agaun. We have been lucky, at some point she would not stop crying, arching her back and throwing up part of the feed, but now she's fine. Either her stomach has matured a bit more and now deals better with the formula, or the changes in the routine have helped her. Mw recommended not to put anything tight around her waist, like leggings trousers or tight nappies. HV suggested to try colief if gaviscon did not help.
Missbunbury, we have just moved from number 2 to number 4, she hasn't done a dirty nappy since yesterday morning, so let's see! I.also bought the Baby Dry Pampers for the night period.
I'm nodding off, I better leave the phone on the side!
Dizzie, I know it's hard, but try not to visualize what could go wrong and instead try to visualize a happy and problem free birth, it will help you cope and approach the moment of labour with a more positive mind. For what you said, doctors, midwives andother professionals are not helping, so try to get as much help as you can from yourself. You don't have to repeat that awful experience, you can make it good, you can be in control of what is said, try to visualize yourself in control.Big hugs for you and lots of good positive energy as well.Quit smoking *1st January 2010*
