candlewax, I also have the Baby Week by Week book after recommendations from here, I think it's great. It covers the first six months. I bought it from Amazon. It has lots of practical advice and sections about what to expect that week with regard to sleeping, feeding, crying, playing, etc.

Oh, I hope you can be back home soon alamaya. Could you ask to see a paediatric Dr for the fits, or a neurologist?

My lo struggled to go to sleep last night, it took almost three hours of crying, I think she was overstimulated but I cannot really tell. She finally fell asleep at 11pm and she's still sleeping!! I've prepared a bottle just in case and I'm on standby waiting for her to wake up. I might just nod off again and let her wake me up.

She struggles with tummy ache a couple of hours before a bowel movement, she only has one a day and she usually leaks and covers herself because it's that much. Is there anything I can do to encourage it? I do tummy massage and bicycles when I remember, plus I put the vibration setting on the bouncer.

Quiet on here at the moment!

Just had the monkey to the docs, he's come over with excema that's been getting worse and worse for over a week now. Got a prescription for some stuff but boots didnt have the cream or the bath stuff in so have to go back tomorrow. Hope it does the trick.

What did they give you? I've got doublebase gel - it's brilliant. Freddie's skin is completely clear now. I've also got something for the bath but I've not used it - apparently it makes them greasy and they're liable to fly out of your hands like an oiled-up baby seal.

Careful with the Oilatum bath stuff - it can build up and make the surface of your bath nicely resemble a skating rink... and yes, I'm speaking from bitter experience here (my brother had to use the stuff for years - I slipped quite badly on the resultant slippy bath on a few occasions and had some nice near-misses)!

OK - what's people's opinions on Robyn as a girls' name sister for Erin?! We're about 90% decided on it I think.

    I love Robyn.

I think its zerobase cream we've got? Can't remember and had to leave the form at the pharmacy so it can be ready for us to collect today. I used to have oilatum in my bath when I was young, I remember slipping and sliding all over the place well!

Got so much I need to do today but had another crappy night - he woke up 4 times, and although he went straight off each time after I went in and gave him a quick kiss I still feel awful with being up and down so much. Think my to do list is going to end up in the bin today while I veg out on the sofa with the biscuit tin while he sleeps.

How's this for nonsensical? Bought Freddie some vitamin drops. The bottle's 25ml and each daily dose is 0.3ml. By my reckoning that's just over 83 doses per bottle. And what does the bottle say...? Once opened, discard after four weeks.

I'd either have to have triplets or three children under 2 to use the whole bottle.... :rotfl:

Are the vitamins for older age too? The vitamins A was having said similar but for under 1 years it's 0.5ml a day and then 1mk a day after a year so you'd get through them doubly fast.

For those looking for bibs, I saw that homebargains (website) has 3 x Mickey or Minnie bibs for £1.99. They also have a few Tommy tippee teats at about 70% discount. And wetsuits for 2-3 years at £9. I always forget to have a look there but they do have great offers sometimes.

  • After another disasterous nights sleep (number 10 in a row now), I've decided to try small one on a night time formula bottle as her last feed and see if that helps her sleeping. She can do one three hour stint then wakes up every hour until morning for a 20-30 minute feed and doesn't always settle down in the intermitting time between the end of that feed and the start of the next - by which time we're on our knees - I thought it might have been a phase but 10 days on its getting worse not better :(

Any pros/cons for the brand of formula to give? Also - how much should I give her? She is rubbish at knowing when she is full on breast milk so if I let her have 10oz she would guzzle it all & then throw it back up. How much do bottle fed babies have at 7 weeks, about 6oz?

Thanks in advance you lovely people!

Moneypenny, my lo is 7 weeks 5 days. She has up to 4 oz generally, only once had 5oz. Last night she couldn't go to sleep, she had about 4 oz between 9pm and 10pm, then about 3 oz at 11pm, but it was a first. She then slept until 5:45am, though, which was also a first! Normally she would sleep 3-4h at night, ask for a feed and sleep another 3h or so. The last few days, however, she seems to be sleeping longer hours, we are encouraging a more distinctive day/night routine. We have the lights on until 8pm, plus she's with us in the living room, have tv on, we speak to her and try to play, etc. After 8pm, we put her in the sleeping bag, switch off lights, go to bedroom to watch tv there, warm up that bottle of milk a bit (during the day she has them at room temperature), and try not to speak whilst feeding, only eye contact and smile. It does not work all the time, yesterday she was overtired from playing and she couldn't sleep. For some weird reason, DH managed to put her to sleep listening to AC/DC, because he read on a book that rock music help them sleep. Weird but worked. However, she woke up when we put her on the moses, so I had to try again, this time she fell asleep on the bouncer with the vibration mode on and a warm blanket on top. In any case, once she falls asleep after 10pm, she usually sleeps 3-4h or more, before asking for a feed, unless struggling to do a bowel movement, which wakes her up every hour or so with tummy aches until she manages to do it.

The midwife and health visitor recommended Aptamil first stage 1, because it's the most similar to breastmilk (at first I tried combination feeding). The box says that for her weight she should have 5oz about 5 times a day, but she never manages that. She has feeds more often with less quantity. I would try 5oz, which is the recommendation on the box, and see how it goes. This is what the box says:
    4-8 weeks / around 4.7kg or 10 1/2 lbs = 5oz x 5 times a day
    8-16 weeks / around 5.4kg to 6.2kg or 12 lb to 13 3/4 lb = 6oz x 5 times a day
After that, it says 7oz x 5 a day until 7 months or so, when it's reduced to 3 a day.

It's even more fun when they're a toddler, freshly creamed up and making a run for it - should make that into an Olympic sport!

My younger brother had chronic really really severe eczema, mum wasn't very well so I had the delightful job of bathing, creaming and dressing a wriggly toddler at about the age of 12 - imagine trying to stuff a cross between Usain Bolt and a greased octopus into a pillowcase and you're about halfway there!
