Hello, can anyone recommend a book on child development in the first year that will help us as new parents (baby is 2 weeks old) to know at what stage he should be reaching milestones (e.g smiling etc) and ideas on what we can do to help his development at various stages? Thanks x

Hi hun. I found this one good - Your Baby Week By Week: The ultimate guide to caring for your new baby. They sell it on Amazon x

Awful dream turtle :( I once had one that my mum died I sobbed my heart out in my sleep !!! Horrible! :(

Marta - aren't the smiles the best!!

Anyone's baby sound like he/she is clearing throat all the time? Happened for a few weeks here now. A lot if things this baby does suggest she has reflux but she doesn't really complain about it - do all babies complain if they have reflux?

No, not all babies will, for some it may not be sore. It's worth getting it checked but they do grow out of it, so if she is gaining weight ok and it doesn't seem to bother her, I wouldn't go down the medication route imo.

Sorry I've been so rubbish at getting on here :( got a lot going on atm but I do read every day xx

    Quick post ladies.
Not posted in a while as im currently stuck at hospital with Matthew.

As some of you may remember he had seizures at birth and feeding problems.

Well can you believe he got reflux as well. So a baby that only took 2oz a feed then threw it back up. I begged for help and it still took docs two weeks to admit us. Hes classed as malnourished and developmentally and physically behind because he has no energy.

Hes now tube fed and will be on discharge. We feed him normally an oz then he stops and we tube the rest. Hes on Infatrini high cal milk. Hes now 8lb at 13 weeks. Finally we are gaining instead of loosing.

He had another fit in hospital yesterday so they upped his meds.

They cant tell me why he fits and doesnt eat but doc did say she thinks as soon as he gets weight on him he should develop ok and catch up. In her words " i dont think hes a baby that will cause me long term worry".

Just hope he gains again on next weigh in wed/thurs so we can get out!.

Then we just have to get 9 syringes of meds in him a day plus tube feeding oh and yeah the 21 month old who wants playing with too lol

    Hugs to all
    xx
so sorry to read this hun. Ive recent experience of staying in for a week with my LO, although nothing in comparison to what you are going through, I know how tough it can be in there.

Fingers crossed he does well at next weigh in. Keep us informed if you can. Hugs xxxx

  • AlamAya - sorry to hear you are having a rough time. I have nothing to say to help except send a big hug xxx

Thanks gilly, I figure if she isn't suffering & is gaining weight she must be ok. Just when I google things she has (hiccups, sicky a lot, clearing throat etc) loads of responses suggest reflux but it doesn't seem to bother her thankfully - not yet anyway! Hope all is well with you xxx hoping you can tell me the secret of how to make sure the MAM bottles don't leak?! All of our bases leak! Fine when it's water, less great when it is milk!! :)

Make sure you press the white valve all the way down into the base after washing and sterilising and make sure it's sealed. When screwing the base and body together make sure it's on tight but not too tight, if too tight you will get leaks too. Assuming its the bottom that's leaking? :o
