Anyone else still up? I've been up for 3 hours now
. He's not been yelling the whole time, hardly at all really, he just doesn't seem able to get over to sleep on his own. Poor little man is completely exhausted, feel awful that I've made him so dependant on having something to suck that he literally can't get to sleep on his own
. Not to mention OH who is in the next room unable to sleep because of it, he has to get up for work in less than 2 hours
:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
Oh lovey. He'll get there. You're helping him learn good sleeping habits. As awful as it seems he's not really distressed and in a couple of nights he'll be able to self soothe without his dummy. It's brutal but effective and in a week or so it will all be a distant memory."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

I'm tempted to get a Ewan !
Thanks for info on bottle feeding. The mam bottles were bought on your recommendation gilly as was the steriliser! It stayed down hurrah! Willy try again with a mam bottle in a day or two see how she goes. Thanks for the help!
Now for another breast feeding question! Flutter sucks at the end of the feed- health visitor said they were when baby reaches the hind milk - I've read it's when they start to comfort suck - which is right? If its the hind milk, how long should she be sucking for? If its comfort sucking should I be taking her off? Confused and conflicting advice !
They flutter suck at the end of a feed so chances are that happens to be the time the hind milk's coming through. When Freddie was little I'd leave him flutter sucking until he'd fallen asleep or was just doing the very occasional suck so that I knew he was definitely getting a full tum."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Morning ladies, he went off about 4.45 then was up again briefly at just gone 6, I've had about 3 hours sleep and coming from the girl who used to suffer on less than 7 hours a night I am not a happy bunny this morning.
Just felt so bad as it wasn't an angry cry at all, just totally exhausted like he wanted to get to sleep but didnt know how without boob or dummy. Hopefully tonight will be better.
Edited to add: just fed him and he clamped down so hard I've got tooth marks on my nip :eek:Newborn thread member

A only has his dummy to sleep, I don't really like him having it but I figure it's a comforter much like his little binky toy is. I do keep saying I'm gonna take it away but I just can't bring myself to do it as he settles so well with it. I dislike it when children who are toddlers and still have a dummy stuck in all the time and it's affecting speech etc.
Have you tried going in to retrieve it from him after he falls asleep may be a gentler way of taking it away xxThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Oh dear Katie, poor you
Well on the plus side last night we got 5 hours of unbroken sleep from 11.30pm to 4.30am, then she guzzled nearly all of a 7oz bottle before going straight back down till 7.30am. When she woke this morning I tried putting Ewan on, didn't seem to work (well, she was hungry so wasn't expecting much) so off I went to the kitchen to get the feed, and when I came back a few minutes later, she was fast asleepHmm, we'll see what this evening brings...
I'm concerned I have a bit of a night owl on my hands - she can't seem to settle off to sleep until 9.30pm at the earliest, but then she's hungry an hour or so later. After her morning bottle, she doesn't really remain awake until she's has a mid-morning feed, so it seems her body clock is set for approx 10pm to 10am, which although is great for now, won't be so good when it comes to nursery/school, so I'm going to have to work on that over the coming months! OH and his family are night owls, they think nothing of staying up chatting/watching tv till the wee small hours, then sleeping in for most of the morning, whereas I, and my family need to be pushing out the zeds by 10pm ish, or we're zombies the following day lol.
Well LO is starting to stir, so hunger calls I guess. She has two bad scratches on either cheek in almost the exact same position, looks really bad so I'm not sure about taking her to be weighed later..we'll see. I can't seem to get her nails short enough not to do any damage, bless her."When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change" - Wayne Dyer

Thanks gilly, we've taken it away completely because although he usually drops it not long after he's fallen asleep and generally stays asleep, if he wakes he can't seem to get back off without it - the previous two nights I was up and down like a jack in the box putting it back in. I think Nutella(?)'s LO is learning to put hers back in? But tbh I've just had enough and I'd rather go the whole hog now and get him to the point where he can just wake up and go back over without any upset or intervention. Hopefully he'll get the message quickly!
Aventurine how old is your LO? Maybe when you have a bedtime routine sorted out you could gradually bring it forward and she might adjust? Re scratches you can get the sleep suits with fold over scratch mitts built in which were a god send for us as he constantly had scratches on his face too.Newborn thread member

I see what you mean
I think Aaron must put his back in himself, I'm not too sure what goes on haha. He doesn't have it in in the morning when I wake up so who knows

Erin's learnt to put hers back in when it's attached to her cuddly rabbit - or she sucks on his ears anyway so the rabbit in itself is becoming a good comforter as we gradually reduce the number of dummies attached to it - the only rare time she wakes up for it now is when she's twirled it round by the ears and it's gone out of reach in the cot - even that hasn't happened in ages as she's discovered cot-wiggling.
She only has it at sleep times or when she's tired and winding down for a sleep (unless daddy's watching her in which case he persists in ramming the dummy in constantly which drives me MAD)... well she can't at the moment since it's on an express wash in the machine and I'm praying it finishes before her after-lunch nap! I hope you get a better night tonight katiechoc!
I used a sleeping bag last night for the first time and omg! She slept almost 6h through!!! I think she was kicking her blanket away during the night and maybe waking up a bit cold. I don't know, let's see if today we have the same success. I had ewan delivered today too, my plan is to start nightime routine with it and use it only during nightime.
I'm addicted to Amazon now! I think with the Prime service from the club, I have already offset any future payment for the year subscription. I'm still with the free trial for another six weeks but I tend to buy th'e nappies there, so I might subscribe to them and get them cheaper. I'm looking now for something to use for tummy time. My budget is £40 max, I want bright colours and preferably primary colours, no pale pinks. I was looking at these, what do you think? Have you got something similar?
Lamaze pyramid mat gym, £37 on offer, used to be £65, it folds in a house pyramid shape. The sun plays music and the detachable toys are a family (a baby, a cat, a woman and a man).
Lamaze lay and plat mat, £13, no toys, just the mat.Tiny love supermat, £28 on offer, was £40, it would last for longer, as it is huge for crawling and rolling. Each square has different textures. But it's massive!

marta depends how you feel about second hand, but i picked up an ELC gym from a charity shop for £2.50.....it was £40 new! Eek! It was in fine condition, is machine washable so washed it and wiped down the overhead bit. He has since totally wrecked it by yanking it around and kicking it too hard, so im glad I only spent £2.50 on it!0
