Fisher price everytime for play gyms for me. I'd get one with dangle bits too, I think they like it xThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

My local charity shops have clothes and books mainly, I have never seen anything for the baby. I could go to the city centre, but I'm a lazy potato and I don't go out unless it's mandatory, I mainly walk around my neighbourhood *embarrassed look* I wanted to go to one of those nearly new events, but I need the car and DH is not keen on second hand... despite most of her clothes being second hand! I guess he's fine if he knows who owned it first, we picked up lots of clothes and items from friends of friends, yet he doesn't want to use freecycle to get more. My mum left some money to buy her something before she went back to Spain, so I've gone for ewan, a nail clippers with magnifier for baby bails, and a tummy time mat or gym. I But I completely agree, some stuff does not need to be new and the baby won't mind at all!
Gyllyx, I saw the fisher price... butthe price goes over what I have left, unless I missed some offer! Are they really that good? What's different?Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

Fisher price will re sell the best out of all brands if you want to sell on? I just like fisher price most of his toys are FP.
Our mat had lights and a rotating mobile type of thing, he would spend hours looking at it he loved ithad nice music too.

We borrowed both of ours - have a bright starts one that starts with the sides velcroed up and dangly bits and then you can drop the sides as they get older (only drawback being the dog fur gets caught in the velcro and we borrowed it off a dog-allergic person so I've put it away for now for that reason alone) and just a really basic one with a few squares with different textures on - both have been fine - now we don't tend to bother and she just uses the fireside rug to roll around on.
As for charity shops - one of ours is very good for picture books and stuff (I got some of those foam jigsaw tiles with the intention of putting them down outside in the summer for a couple of quid recently) but I've got a few bigger things second-hand from my mum knowing of playgroups and community projects closing down - so she's bought things like sit and ride toys and Little Tikes play stuff for a tenner here and there.
Personally - I love Lamaze stuff - as does the baby.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
We had a baby Einstein play mat thing that he loved, still has the dangly bits off it now, although the main bit is up in the loft. I'd deffo go for a gym with the dangly bits, the big mats looks good but to be honest, in our case atleast, he wouldn't have enjoyed it as much when he was little and it was quite a short period of time when he was rolling around that he might have appreciated the textures. And now the little monkey can get everywhere he'd never stay on a mat.
Just got back from swimming, had the learner pool all to ourselves! Felt a bit of a prat gurning at him and Blowing raspberries when there was the lifeguard stood right there watching over just the two of us!Newborn thread member

Ahh charity shops, now you are talking my language
Just got back from my local banardos, the only one within reasonable walking distance. Got a lovely M&S cardi for £2 in 6-9 months, some brand new leggings 3-6 months and some Next soft baby bibs which are really pretty. I was desperate for the bibs as I only had a few soft ones, the others are all waterproof backed, which LO hates.
I love having a little girl, I'm enjoying the novelty after having two boys (will probably eat these words during the teenage years lol).
Just had the biggest smile from her too, awww!!!"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change" - Wayne Dyer

Oh, aventurine, I just realized your daughter is a day older than mine! Smiles are the best things ever! She gave me a big one this morning when she woke up and saw me by the cot. Priceless. I could stay at home forever staring at her!!! Nature makes them cute so we put up with the smelly nappies and the lack of sleep.Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

I THINK I can see a tooth poking through - purply gum, white bit in the middle... not the usual order for teeth to come through - looks like one of the fangy-type bottom teeth and not an incisor.
Only one conclusion can be made - I've bred a vampire.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
I hope you get a better night tonight katiechoc!
I used a sleeping bag last night for the first time and omg! She slept almost 6h through!!! I think she was kicking her blanket away during the night and maybe waking up a bit cold. I don't know, let's see if today we have the same success. I had ewan delivered today too, my plan is to start nightime routine with it and use it only during nightime.
I'm addicted to Amazon now! I think with the Prime service from the club, I have already offset any future payment for the year subscription. I'm still with the free trial for another six weeks but I tend to buy th'e nappies there, so I might subscribe to them and get them cheaper. I'm looking now for something to use for tummy time. My budget is £40 max, I want bright colours and preferably primary colours, no pale pinks. I was looking at these, what do you think? Have you got something similar?
Lamaze pyramid mat gym, £37 on offer, used to be £65, it folds in a house pyramid shape. The sun plays music and the detachable toys are a family (a baby, a cat, a woman and a man).
Lamaze lay and plat mat, £13, no toys, just the mat.Tiny love supermat, £28 on offer, was £40, it would last for longer, as it is huge for crawling and rolling. Each square has different textures. But it's massive!
marta, they really like to look up at things and reach for them as they get older. A playmat is no different to a rug really because they won't realise they're lying on anything 'playful'. Get something with an arch or two that you can hang things off. Freddie adored his play gym.
In fact, he's outgrown it now really. You can have it if you like (PM me). It's as good as new - he's never even been sick in itLink below so you can see what it's like.

Playmats - we've got hard floors so I went for the squishiest one I could find, then bought it second hand off Ebay. It's got a separate head cushion too with loops on it so you can take off the dangly toys from the arches and attach them to the cushion then use that for tummy time so the toys are spread in front of her. It's really think and comfy, and has crispy-noise-making bits where her feet go to encourage her to kick. It's not long arrived, she seems to like it so far.0
