Marta, when she was younger we had this playgym (I know this link says out of stock, but others will have it) - she loved the toys dangling from it and used to enjoy bashing them with her fist! Definitely get one with toys hanging from it.

Now that she's older we have this mat. It's fab, but wouldn't work for a newborn as they'd get bored too quickly. I think it'll last for ages though - although she now moves off it, it's a nice and comfy place to sit and play (including playing games etc. when she's older) and it's huge so there's room for a parent too.

Oh, and on periods - I expressed for 3 weeks, then had my first period 5-6 weeks after giving birth. I used to get really heavy periods with migraines and back pain, then I was on the pill for 10 years so didn't have periods at all - now I'm back on the same pill and have periods again :( But nothing like they used to be - much gentler thankfully. I think it's normal that they change after giving birth.

Edited to add: Miss Bunbury's post reminded me of something else I wanted to say about playmats, which is that most of them are too thin, but we just put a blanket under it for a bit of extra padding.

Epic fail here unfortunately :( but then again I made the mistake of feeding her 7.30pm bottle in the same room as OH whilst the footy was on. He's not normally quiet and low key at the best of times, let alone when his beloved team are playing, despite my constant requests. *sigh*. It's not all his fault though, as he doesn't realise exactly how loud he's being as he's hard of hearing, but he can be quiet when he makes the effort!

Will persevere tomorrow, doing the evening feed in the bedroom, just me and her. She did like the red light on Ewan though, and the harp music seems to be her favourite :) She is now currently being indoctrinated watching the footy on daddy's lap..

We started doing the evening feed in the bedroom when she was about 2 weeks old, and never looked back. We dim the lights and put on Ewan (before he died)/the frog that we use now. Prior to this feed she always has a bath followed by a massage (also in dimly lit bedroom) - means she has plenty of time to get into 'sleep mode'. We also used Ewan for naps - she eventually started yawning as soon as the harp music started playing :) Do perservere though - it took a good couple of weeks here before Ewan made any difference whatsoever. I think she just needed a bit of time to learn to associate him with sleep time.

Thank you very very very much for the advice, the offers and the suggestions. This thread is truly full not only of amazing mums but also amazing people!

I think somebody was into the hungry caterpillar as nursery theme, I saw a tote bag at Amazon for 3.75 or so that maybe could be used to put toys / pyjamas / lunch... link here.

    You are awesome people.

    Hi Ladies

Hope you all well. I'm working late tonight, so thought i'd finally pop on to say hi. Don't get much opportunities now a days i'm afraid :(

We had a playmat with an arch and constantly changed the toys hanging on it, so was something new. Mirrors are great. I used to put a little blanket underneath it too x

  • katiechoc - sorry your night wasn't a success but it was the first try at it so don't feel guilty or bad about anything! good luck tonight! :)

bamama - re: flutter sucking that's what I've done, taken her off and if she wakes she gets more if not, sleepy time for everyone! :)

aventurine - I'm concerned that we let the little one stay up too long really, she has her bath about 10.15 -10.30 which I think is quite late but means then gets in her sleeping bag and has her last feed before we go to sleep and there is a chance of us going to sleep before midnight, of course she snoozes all night on and off with us but either on one of us, on her mat, in the pram or in her bouncy chair. Moses basket is strictly for night time as she spent 3 weeks NOT asleep in it when we had her in it day and night!! I guess we should bath her before her 9pm(ish) feed really.

marta - nothing like what you asked for but we have this one and she loves it, only just starting to take an interest in the dangly bits but its got a lot of padding which is why I liked it - I would never have thought of putting a blanket under a thinner one doh! :o

aventurine & marta - my littlie is a week younger than your two and I agree the smiles are brilliant! I barely get a thing done in the day when she starts the smiles and giggles :)

dizzi - lol at the vampire :)

Second successful day with an expressed bottle, I could only get 3oz so she was still genuinely hungry so I put her back on the boob juice for 5 minutes then she was ok - bottle stayed down and she seemed happy with the MAM bottles.

Anyway, upon inspecting the MAM bottle box and Medela Swing box that I hadn't really looked at in any great detail prior to babies arrival, there I found lots of exciting things that we might like to use like a MAM dummy which we found so good we bought another two (only to realise that there is another one in the box) AND there is a Calma teat sitting in the Medela Swing box.....after me umming and ahhing all week about spending £10 that we didn't really have on one - there has been one in the box all along. This is what happens when husbands get equipment out of boxes when mummies are out of the game on painkillers following c-sections! Thanks for all the suggestions and help with the Calma!

Going to try a Medela teat tomorrow I think. The expressing wore me out a bit - in fact today's whole breast feeding has worn me out as small fry has been feeding about every 2 hours. I can only guess she is having a 6 week growth spurt? She had me up an extra time in the night too.

Still dithering about Ewan, she is OK now without but perhaps it would be useful to start with it now use it to persuade her to have daytime naps when she is a bit older? Not sure!

Anyway, hope all are well - little miss needs feeding so must go! :)

Moneypenny - that's such a cute playmat! Love it :) I'd like one for myself - if only they did them in adult size!
  • I'm very excited..gave LO her bottle at 7.30pm, finished winding her at 8pm and put her in her cot. Set Ewan going, and tiptoed out of the room - and she's still asleep!!! *happy dance* This is despite OH coming into the bedroom half way through the feed, climbing on the bed, getting right into LO's face and saying "hellooo" in a really loud voice! !!!!!! is wrong with the man????

I'm just enjoying a well-earned cuppa :D Long may this continue.

    Moneypenny yay for the teat!!
Marta we have the lamaze surn and spin garden thing. I wouldn't say baby loves it but he does lie on it a bit. Think he's a bit young even though it is from birth, when he is older you take the ladybug off and it's just a mat (although quite a small one). Argos had it on sale / 3 for 2 a while back.

4.30am: She's yawning and rubbing her eyes. She could go back to sleep. Or she could explore my eyelids, poke her fingers inside my nose and pull my hair. She chose the latter. Obviously.
