Hi ladies, a quick question and hope somebody has some experience of a baby who doesn't sleep enough! She's happy and alert and feeding well but she's had on average since Tuesday 7 hours sleep each 24 hours and this is either 1 solid sleep or 2 split sleeps overnight. Yesterday morning she woke up at 8am and didn't sleep at all till 11pm - not even a 5 minute snooze while feeding - she then woke up at 3am and was smiling and feeding till 5am and went back down till 7:14am and is still wide awake now, this has been pretty much the pattern for 4 days now and her eyes are all red and puffy and she looks shattered! How on earth do I get her to sleep anywhere near the length of time she needs to?

I've got one that just doesn't seem to need sleep. If he sleeps at all in the day at the moment, he's bouncing around till 3am. He's currently walking round his cot shouting for his brother to come play.

    Hope you're home soon Sunshine.

Thanks missbunbury. I'm hoping he has a full belly (hour long feed should do it) and he'll settle himself. Can see him calling for more boob in a sec though.

Might be a growth spurt, they can mess with sleep I believe. Is he still on meds? If not that could explain it.

Well he was all "feed feed feed" in the day, then we had a "feed feed feed" night, followed by sleepy day, "feed feed feed" night and an ok day today... not overly hungry but didn't sleep, just lay content/slept strapped to daddy while shoppibg.

Little bu99er has me wrapped around his finger. Put him down while half asleep, fidgetted, grunted, started crying... so ofc I picked him up and... dead silence! Put him back gently and he was sleeping lovely. As I'm typing this he's started making noises but he may stay asleep.

    Here's hoping.

Sunshine, I always check my phone when I'm up in the night so I may be around for you. Hope the night goes well for you *cwtches* xxx

  • Thanks bamama. Theyve put some water with his oxygen to keep it moist. His machine is on 98 115 which is way better than before when it was on 86 198.

His cannular lost the vein so think they want to try and do it again later. Ita bloody roasting hot here though - I am sure it shouldnt be this warm with poorly babies about. X

You know what hospitals are like. Our hospital was 28 degrees and they had all the babies in 2 layers, 2 blankets and hats

I changed to comfort milk at lunch. First feed she had the full 4oz, second feed she had half before crying, third feed she had only half an ounce. All in between, during the feed and after the feed, she's been crying, unsettled, only ok with dummy for a bit, then carried around for a bit, but nothing really worked. She was tired and hungry but would cry whilst feeding too. As the amounts were dropping, I gave up and gave her aptamil 1 again. She's had 2.5 and went to sleep at the end, only cried a bit at the beginning. Have I given up too quickly? Or was the comfort milk no good for her? Maybe I was expecting some immediate change? I just felt it was a step back instead of forward. It also stinks very badly and has some slimey consistency, I would never ever drink anything with that smell. Almost as if the milk had gone off. Gross. It gave her horrible breath!! Should I persevere? I think today was the worst day of the week! At least before the walking and the sling calmed her down and she could sleep there about three or four hours, but today she couldn't. She would scream in her sleep and wake up to more crying! I hope she does not continue like this during the night, because we usually have "good ones", she has the feed half asleep and go straight into sleeping mode afterwards, but only at night. Daytime is more of crying time! I hope I have not messed up with her stomach with this milk!!

We tried having her in the shower with me and after a minute of complaining, she loved it. She smiled and tried to lick the water from my breast lol. She was there for about 15min and cried when we took her out! I sat on the bath with her on my chest, skin to skin position, with the soft setting of the electric shower, which is very soft, like rain, I used the shower head in my hand and she loved it!! Shame the experience was disturbed by yet more crying afterwards! Because she was really calmed and relaxed afterwards, but ten minutes in the moses and screamed again!! They should come with an instructions manual :(

  • She's eight weeks tomorrow Marta, this pic is her little wise old man face when she is bright and awake.

Showering with baby is a great idea, hadn't thought of it but might try now.
