I had five weeks of bleeding (very light by the end of it) after giving birth, then one week of nothing, and then my first period! :( I didn't exclusively BF though, did combination feeding for about 3 weeks and then switched to 100% formula.

I've now been back on the pill for over 7 months, and I never used to get periods whilst on it (no periods for 10 years was fab!), but post-birth I get one every month... Not happy with that one!

My midwife said breast feeding inhibits ovulation so I would t have a period as long as I breast fed. In another conversation she said after the baby you are super fertile so be careful. I therefore have no idea if or when I'll next have a period ! It was a question on my list for the GP at 6 week check rather than be confused by the hit and miss midwife!!

Bad night last night sleep wise but she did well in her sleeping bag!!

Feeding normally today then since 5 she has been demanding hourly feeds! Exhausting! She has put 9oz on in a week, she put 9 on last week too, little chubber!!!

    Hope all are well!!

While we're on this sort of topic... how long does bleeding usually last post birth?

Mine went on for quite a while- i was getting "something" for about 2.5 months, but the heaviest lasted a week, and period type stuff for maybe 3 weeks..:(

I have been BF for a year now, 2 x feeds per day (am/pm) and 2 x expressing per day since back at work in July. My first period came in late October, just after i dropped the earlier of the two expresses. I have had one more since then.

We had a big lecture on it at the hospital antenatal classes. She is kind of right on both counts, BF does inhibit OV, but under very strict circumstances, which is why it isn't suitable as a means of conception. Basically you cant EVER EVER go longer than 6 hours without a feed, or your body kicks in with full on hormones, and the protection is gone for all time, you cant get it back, leaving you super fertile.... Which makes having a decent sleep, a break, bottle feeding etc a big no no.
