We had a big lecture on it at the hospital antenatal classes. She is kind of right on both counts, BF does inhibit OV, but under very strict circumstances, which is why it isn't suitable as a means of conception. Basically you cant EVER EVER go longer than 6 hours without a feed, or your body kicks in with full on hormones, and the protection is gone for all time, you cant get it back, leaving you super fertile.... Which makes having a decent sleep, a break, bottle feeding etc a big no no.
Do you mean it makes having a 6hr+ break a big nono in terms of keeping you from ovulating?so if you start to bottle feed or have a 10 hour sleep (ha! imagine!) there is a chance you could ovulate and the protection has gone for good? confusing but at least she wasn't talking complete twaddle (as per some of the other things she says!).
turtle - the nappies sound horrendous! :eek:0 -

So so very true ... I was told by a doctor that while exclusively breastfeeding I was very unlikely to ovulate ... errrm I have 13 months between my children, so I guess that's not always correct!0 -
Maybe another 3 weeks or so then
I'm out of practice between being pregnant and taking Cerazette since I was 19 ><
Between the depo and cerazette I've had 3 periods in the last 12 years so wasn't looking forward to it but thankfully its ok so far. Seeing the Dr on Thursday where I'll hopefully go back on the injection and I won't have another until we want another bubs lol.0 -

Exactly. If you happen to sleep for 6 hours on any one occassion, or get OH to do a single bottle feed for you, and its more than 6 hours between feeds, then bam, thats that. Your chances of starting to ovulate again are pretty good. Not worth the risk eh!Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Ha, I know the feeling! I was told that due to being on the pill for so long (11years) that I should stop taking it immediately if i wanted to conceive the next year, because it would take a MINIMUM of 6 months for my body to regulate and to start ovulating etc..erm I stopped taking the pill and got pregnant first possible time!!!! Stupid nurse!!! My bubba was *supposed* to be due around now or later....not to be here and be 7 months old already!! :cool:0 -
Interesting stuff re bfing and the 6 hour rule. I've not had a period yet, and not looking forward to the first one after so long!
I'm currently hiding under the quilt with my phone - sleeping in G's room tonight so OH can hopefully get a proper nights sleep without me being in and out. Unfortunately for me George is not a happy boy - teeth and a sore throat (not sure if the throat is beginning of a bug or because he was screaming so much earlier). Sounds like he's almost asleep now but I daren't move or get comfy in case I wake him again!
Hope everyone else has a better night than this!Newborn thread member

I'm still waiting for my first period after a year... one small advantage to having a feedy feedy baby.
Not looking forward to it!

Don't laugh at the prospect of 10 hours moneypenny... I had 9! :P
*hugs Katie* good luck x0 -
Morning all, will try and remember some points.
9 month check, don't get them here or if you do Iv not heard about them. I've not been near the place since his 16 week injections though and they don't contact me so go figure  think with it being the city they are so stretched, that people just get missed out. I'm not really concerned though as he's walking, touching all manner of things he shouldn't be, babbling away to himself most days and likes to sleep a lot. We are still waiting on an appointment for the dietician thoughI'm so worried his molars are gonna come in and crumble or something because he isn't getting enough calcium! Hopefully something will come in soon as I was referred weeks ago.
Might be worth chasing up the 9 month check Gilly, as it has a medical part too. I wasn't too fussed, and forgot to book the medical bit, as they do them separately, for ages. Only for us to need referring for something that needs sorting as close to 1 as possible.0 -
What contraception is safe to use while bf'ing? Would Cerazette (or similar) be an option again?0
