Thanks for all your advice so far. Ro - Sadly, I'm not really close enough to my family for them to offer to come and help ... and it might drive me really potty!
I'm so pleased that my children are so capable of getting themselves ready for school. They've been doing this all the time they've been at school, due to me working and them going to wraparound care at school.
I can't believe you were driving so soon after your c-section Fluffnutter. After my last one, it seemed to be forever before I could walk, let alone drive ... here's hoping that the surgery has progressed in 7 years and the pain is not so awful for me this time.
I am thinking it all can't be much more stressful than having a newborn to care for and a 12 month old! At least the children are old enough to help out this time.
Gillyx - I completely agree with your comments ... when I have to leave the house I will leave and the baby will just fit into our lives ... and it's quite a long walk to school so by the time I get there hopefully she will have fallen asleep and got over any protest screams for stopping feeding and going out!0 -
Kira, what app is that? I'd like to download it.
I have been using the baby esp app, but unfortunately, i got a message a month or so ago, saying the developer had withdrawn it from sale, so you could only use it, if you already had it. There were other similar ones when i got that one, just have a look on the app store.Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

Kira it wasn't a typo. I keep forgetting us Welshies are weird. Mun = man/mate
I was saying I'm useless in general.
Kira how did you know when to feed at night if there were no cried? I really don't want to aet an alarm and disturb OH especially when he goes back to work. I know everyone's advice is 4 hours (or 5) but if we can make up the feeds in the day then wpuld there be so much of a problem with 6/7/8 hours? I'd never leave him if he cried for a feed but... Gah I dunno sounds like I'm making excuses or something
During the day i just used the app to check for 3 hours, and offered then, or before if i thought i saw signs, or if she was crying. If she refused the boobie, then i knew it was something else. During the night, it was if she cried, or every 4 hours, and i set my alarm to vibrate and had it tucked under the side of my pillow so as not to disturb DH or LO.
I think the reason why just making it up with more feeds in the day might not work, instead of night feeds is their tummies are just so tiny at this age, there is only so much they can take on at once. A bit like filling the tank of your car. You can go to the petrol station 5 times during the day, but you can still only fill to the max level, and then when you've used up the miles, you have to refill it!Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!

If anyone with an Android device is looking for a baby tracking app, I use iBaby. You can track baby's feeding, weeing, pooping, sleeping and medication schedules as well as growth. Being a first time mum I'm finding it really useful, not sure if it's available on other platforms however.Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug).0

Thanks for the suggestions regarding apps, I'll have a look now. Also thanks to whoever recommended the book from Amazon about baby week by week, I've just.ordered it.
We're having a few difficult days here. She has a couple of peaceful feeds a day, but many of the others end up in screaming, difficulty to burp and passing wind with "straining face". She can be unsettled for hours, yesterday from 9pm to almost 3am, when she'd feed in between but would have no sleep or five minute naps, with periods of staring at the room around and sudden cries. I do not know what to do! We've been two days now on infacol, I changed to number 2 teats (avent) and she ate much more and seemed to be more relaxed during the feed (4oz), but by the end of it she wasn't sleepy but couldn't take any more and looked in pain. I bought some Dr Brown bottles (starter kit) and variable flow teats for avent, just to try as well and see if she gets less wind with any of those. I can soothe her a bit sometimes but sitting her between my legs facing one of them and bending her over it so her stomach touches my leg, and I can rub her back. But it does not always work and I'd like to avoid having to even get to that point! Any tips / personal experience?Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

Infacol made things a lot worse for my wee one, forced the wind down and gave him a real sore tummy.
Have you tried the comfort milk yet? XThe frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -

CJ was terrible for wind for a while. Screaming and screaming, and refusing to feed, and then starting and stopping crying. Things we did:
Burped her holding her upright against my chest, and not over shoulder, rubbing slowly from base of spine upwards in circular motions, not patting.
Tried to stop her part way through and give her a quick wind, before restarting
When really bad, i would give her some gripe water just before a feed, and again if she pulled off screaming.
I used what i called a comfort position to soothe her, me semi lying down in bed, with her lying on her tummy across my tummy, head resting on my arm, and then stroking her back. The warmth from me on her tum seemed to soothe and relax so the wind came out more easily (both ends!).
We also propped up the end of the crib, so she wasnt lying flat, which really helped.
Oh, and sometimes, lying her down flat for a few seconds, then lifting her back upright, helped dislodge things. She still often belches when i pick her up from a nap now!!
I think it is somewhat unavoidable to have to wind, young babies just take wind on board, you just need to get rid of it, before the next feed, in order to avoid a huge wind meltdown at the next one...Married 13/03/10 #1 DD born 13/01/12!!
