Looking for a good vacuum

I have had several makes of vacuum cleaners. Had numerous Dysons, expensive, great at first, but things like the hose end up splitting etc. I wouldn't have another. I have used Sebo's, they are ok, but better vacuum cleaners are available. Henry's great on wooden floors, rubbish on carpets.
I currently has a Bissell (bagless) cleaner, its this one, its a reconditioned one direct from Bissell, the best vacuum cleaner I have ever had. It's currently out of stock at Bissell, but keep checking the website.

They are great value as they are reconditioned, I would buy again from this company and website.0 -
I dont know what you do with your Dysons but I have had 5 in around 12+ years and they last around 5 years. I have two at present one for upstairs upright and another cylinder for downstairs and car. Both come with 5 year warrantypinkladyof66 wrote: »I am looking to buy a new vacuum last three i had were all dyson - however after paying over £200 each time for them I have found them to only last max of 1 year (no heavy use) only used a couple of times a week.
I am therefore looking for something else, has anyone any advice on what i could go for please willing to pay anything up to £150.

Dyson is a bit of a con mixed with very slick PR and shiny colours.
If certain British and German companies can make machines that last far longer for the same price or less and hardly ever need servicing how come Dyson sell so many?
I don't remember when was the last time (or ever) I saw the head of Numatic or Miele get interviewed by the bib and such about their vacuum cleaners, I do however see the head and founder of Dyson every other day in the media, a bit like the head of Ryanair.
I support Dyson as they are a big employer in our area but I will never buy one of his dreaded machines. I had the cylinder type one and it's only managed 3 years before the engine stopped working and needed changing. Miele on the other hand is a different story 9 years so far with the S4810 and nada, never needed anything other than filters and bugs.Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

I have just checked and bought my dyson end of 2008 so in fact is 3 years old, the sunction has gone from the nozzle taken it apart bought new filters nozzle and everything and nothing so would seem it is off to the recycle website in case someone can fix it.
I take ownership of my new miele vacuum tomorrow afternoon and cannot wait the house is so very messy.

Have you spoken to Dyson to see if anything can be done? You can always sell it for spares on an auction site.If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0

To be honest this is the 3rd dyson that has lost suction so going to just give up the ghost might try and get a few quid from an auction site for spares

I've got through 3 Dysons in approx 15 years. Always good for a year, then ineffectual. Currently got a very lightweight, upright Dax, which does almost a good job, as the Dyson when new, and is simple to maintain. No probs whatsover, yet.
I wouldn't have bought my particular model, but was bought for me, so's fine.
This isn't my model, just an indication. There are pricier, more effective? in their range:

I absolutely love my Dyson Ball - I tried a Vax last year but it was absolute rubbish compared to the Dyson. I have been using Dysons for the last 12 years, always upright ones and find them lightweight and easy to move around and I have a very spinal condition.
My friend who is a cleaner loves the Henrys and Hettys but I just can't use them due to having to stoop to clean.Christians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0
