Are they OK ?0 -
I'd swerve Dyson at all costs following my experience wtih them.
Have you read the thread? There are others who suggest the same, and recommend Sebo, Miele, and VAX I believe.....
My Miele with 10 year warranty is £180......0 -
The vacuum sound great but how long does a bag last? they don't sound reusable and I think the cost would put me off. That's why I like a bagless.
I think using a cheaper version would invalidate the guarantee and might not work as well.
For me a big selling point for me is that the dust is ready bagged in a disposable paper bag and the whole thing goes in the bin with minimal dust exposure. It's a convenience, but I'm allergic to dust mites. Bagless cleaners are hard to empty without inhaling some (often quite a bit) of dust and I'd sneeze for hours. I also found that a lot more dust migrates inside bagless cleaners, so the cleaner itself needs cleaning often. The only place I find dust inside my bag cleaner is inside the bag.
Dust exposure might not be such a worry for you as you may not have any allergies, but another issue I found was that bagless cleaners generally have bulkier and more costly filters as they're the major thing that catches the fine dust. They also block up much faster. Our dyson running costs quickly exceeded what we used to spend on paper bags this way.
As for different bags, my vacuum is pretty old and I buy whatever compatible bags I can find on eBay. I've noticed no difference in performance so far.0 -
James Dyson pointed out the advantages of a bagless over a bagged. Essentially, there have to be some micro-fine holes in a bag. Otherwise, the air from the suction would cause the bag to explode! Micro-fine dust particles do escape from the bag.
If they are not contained within the vacuum cleaner or filtered, they are released back into the air.
Hence, Dyson and some other vacuum cleaners have a two stage HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) post filter. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -

So is my old Cylinder any bug will do Miele.
It's the only expensive bit as the only HEPA filters I can find are made by Miele, oh well.Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

My Dyson has this. I have lifetime filters that I wash every 6 months.
Fortunately I don't have any allergies and I take your point Ben84. I suppose we use whatever suits our purpose best.
I am tempted with a smaller vacuum for upstairs as the Dyson is rather on the heavy side.0 -
