I know someone her husband and her dont drink coffee so when her son and family go to visit they have to take their own, they take a jar and leave it there and she tells them when it is getting empty so they can bring another one
So there is people like this Talk about tight !
I dont like coffee I have got a jar now but had none in the house for about a year that's because it does not even cross my mind to buy one when shopping as. I hate it I wouldn't expect someone to buy one though but it doesn't make me tight
I would never go if someone charged the polite way in my opinion is to take wine, nibbles or a course ie pudding0 -
We always have xmas at home as me and hubby work in retail so dont usually have enough time off to go to anyone elses (in laws are 3 hour drive and my mum 4 1/2 hour drive).
My mum is coming this year-most years she says before xmas I'll give you x amount towards the food etc-as she lives so far away and comes by train it is not practical for her to bring anything with her, but we dont rely on her contributing anything, as we are happy to provide food as she has paid travel to get here.
This year though all i have had is 'oh i'm not sure if i can afford to give anything towards the food'etc which is fine as i dont expect her to, but then when she starts telling me stuff to get in (she's doing slimming world, so is a bit pickier) and the more expensive stuff like cans of pepsi (HAS to be cans and HAS to be pepsi) whereas we would just have own brand bottles for us. Then my sister rings me yesterday to pre-warn me that my mum had told her that she was thinking of staying with me for an extra couple of days as it's an extra couple of days she doesnt have to heat her flat
I'm all for hospitality and she can stay as long as she wants, but to stay so she saves money while i'm footing the bill for food and heating the spare room for her, and charging her laptop and phone etc etc We are not well off either as i'm just at the end of my maternity leave-just rather annoying!!!!!0 -

I don't charge, with my cooking people would ask for a refund :eek:14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140

I have friends who are Mormon so don't drink tea or coffee as a matter of religious preference. I stayed with one of these friends in the summer along with another friend. I had to laugh as we'd both brought our own jar of coffee along as we knew they wouldn't have it and neither of us could kick start in the mornings without it. (We drank it out on the patio -she had no problem with us doing so-just wouldn't buy it herself). I wouldn't expect someone who doesn't drink coffee for whatever reason to buy it for me (although I know one of my neighbours does do it just for me)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I would be shocked but last year we heard of someone doing the same thing just on different occassions, they would have a part for halloween or bonfire then charged everyone 10euros a head for 1 jacket pot and chilli, and then people had to take their own beers to. Funny thing was everyone was shocked but still went, then left saying how crap it was. Luckily for me i was the !!!!! of the century (apparently) and so wasnt invited. Cant say i missed out, we had a few friends and a bbq and it went down really well, and no way did i ask anyone to pay, just bring a bottle as im not a drinker. These people make me laugh they must be making a right old profit on the food they are actually buying.back to comping in 2017, fingers crossed :beer:0
