OMG  I have never heard of such a thing. I would tell her were to go and invite everyone to mine instead :T
I'm all up for asking people to bring a bottle or starter/ desert to help out but to pay per head is just so wrong :rotfl:Ant. :cool:0 -

My mum is coming this year-most years she says before xmas I'll give you x amount towards the food etc-as she lives so far away and comes by train it is not practical for her to bring anything with her, but we dont rely on her contributing anything, as we are happy to provide food as she has paid travel to get here.
This year though all i have had is 'oh i'm not sure if i can afford to give anything towards the food'etc which is fine as i dont expect her to, but then when she starts telling me stuff to get in (she's doing slimming world, so is a bit pickier) and the more expensive stuff like cans of pepsi (HAS to be cans and HAS to be pepsi) whereas we would just have own brand bottles for us. Then my sister rings me yesterday to pre-warn me that my mum had told her that she was thinking of staying with me for an extra couple of days as it's an extra couple of days she doesnt have to heat her flat
I'm all for hospitality and she can stay as long as she wants, but to stay so she saves money while i'm footing the bill for food and heating the spare room for her, and charging her laptop and phone etc etc We are not well off either as i'm just at the end of my maternity leave-just rather annoying!!!!!
Sorry, but I think you are being a bit mean. When my mum stays with us I always buy in her favourite foods/drinks and never begrudge doing it. She's my mum! As for heating the spare room... is that such a big deal?I don't charge, with my cooking people would ask for a refund
