Charging relatives for Xmas dinner

A family friend is hosting Xmas dinner this year and is apparently charging everyone £30 a head, and they still have to take their own beer:eek::eek:She is even charging her own Mum who does everything for her:eek::eek:I know Xmas is an expensive time for us all, and it'll be hard work for her, but I think this is a bit excessive:D
I think if she asked everyone to bring a course eg, starter, or pudding etc or a couple of bottles of wine that would be more acceptable:D
Apparently she does this every year, so last year must've taken in £300 or more:eek::eek:

Thats very mean, as you say apparently maybe ask them yourself so you know the facts, and instead offer to take food & drink.

Oh we're not going hun, no way;)We're going out for a meal:D:DIt is deffo true cos she's told me, and I had to bite my lip cos I was so shocked:D;)

I say more fool the people who go. I certainly would not give any relative or friend any money for supplying me with a meal. I would rather starve

lol and tbh she's the sort who wants everyone there so she can play at being the hostess/boss all day;)

I, for one, would be telling her straight out that I don't have £60 (for two of us) to spare! I never heard the like!:eek:

Asking people to bring a bottle, or even make some food to take and share, yes, that's OK, but.... sorry, words fail me.:(

She's treating what should be a pleasant occasion as if she's running a restaurant, imho.

Did she say why she does it this way? Does she serve a seven course "well posh" dinner, with new linen napkins, personalised crackers, posh coffee and many puddings and luxury mince pies, and arrange party games afterwards with decent prizes? Is that the sort of "do" we're talking about?

I keep thinking that if she just asked for a "contribution" then that might (I suppose) be more palatable (as t'were ) but to charge for yer dinner???
