Charging relatives for Xmas dinner

Blinking flip, what happened to a time of giving etc...
I know Christmas dinner can be expensive but there's ways and means to do it cheaply....
How heartless is that? If people want to make a donation towards say the cost of turkey then fair enough that's their choice but to enforce such a fee and unless she's doing a 5* slap up meal what does she do with the rest of the money, have a jolly time at New Year thanks to poor relatives.....0 -
Just curious, but does this person have money?
OH and I were talking about things like this the other day and every single person we knew who were reasonably well off, were a little bit tight or mean.
All the poor folk we know would give you their last.Herman - MP for all!

It might depend on what she is serving I suppose (trying to be nice)
For £30 I would want to be drinking champagne all day!
Might try it next year so I don't have to ever talk to my MIL again or my mother for that matter:D0 -
:O Gob smacked to say the least. If your going to offer to cook for people you shouldn't charge!! :wow: Maybe ask for help, like someone buy the veg or someone sort desserts......Unreal. Sorry i know it's your family but i'd be so angry and upset. I'm going to a family meal on Sunday (as half the family live in wales so we have two christmas dinners yummers!!) And my mother-in-law would never charge us!!
Some people these days seem to have forgotten about what christmas really means

sounds like a great plan, make a few quid, and annoy the mother in law enough so she never rings again! its pure genius

My parents are coming for lunch and have asked what they can contribute - they are bringing a ham and some wine and tbh i can imagine it will be mor the £60 worth of stuff they bring - though we are feeding and accommodating them for 3 days. I'd never ask for the cash though!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

just realised something... if she's charging poeple for food she's prearing in her house, shouldn't she have health and safety and the council's environmental health on her back?! and a license or permit?! perhaps someone should give the council a nod lol.0

Judging by this article she's making a fair bit of money off it http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-161462460
