Fwiw, the restaurant Mr LW and I went to for his birthday last week are charging just £25 per head, albeit excluding drinks, for a 3-course Xmas meal, with coffee, mince pies and decent crackers.

That's a restaurant, who are in the business to make a profit, and I can tell you from personal experience the food is to die for, and generous portions.

Just thought it might put a wee bit of perspective on this outrageous £30 a head charge for family.:o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • If anyone (family friend) asked me to go for £10 a head including a couple of drinks I'd pay that happily.

But even if I were a millionaire and someone asked me to go for £30, AND bring your own bottle they'd get told to shove off!!!

I can understand someone asking for a bit of a contribution, but by the sounds of it she's profiting and there's no way I would go.

I'd also have no problems paying for my head of £35 or so for an anniversary meal, or wedding... But I would let my feelings be well known after the day if I was only served a rubbish buffet

The sad thing is, these people will think they're so clever :(
  • We paid £30 per person the other year to have Christmas Day lunch in a pub. It may not have been gourmet food but at least we didn't feel like we were being ripped off...

A family friend is hosting Xmas dinner this year and is apparently charging everyone £30 a head, and they still have to take their own beer:eek::eek:She is even charging her own Mum who does everything for her:eek::eek:I know Xmas is an expensive time for us all, and it'll be hard work for her, but I think this is a bit excessive:D
I think if she asked everyone to bring a course eg, starter, or pudding etc or a couple of bottles of wine that would be more acceptable:D
Apparently she does this every year, so last year must've taken in £300 or more:eek::eek:

So she feeds 10+ people including herself, some of them don't like it and yet they keep going year after year?

Sounds like the whole family are a bit weird tbh

Like I said before, I think a lot of her family feel obliged to go, as she does make the effort and they do have a good time:DI was just thinking it was a bit too much to be asking peeps, and it seems a lot of people on here think the same :D:D
LW we are also going for a meal out at £25 a head, can't chuffin wait:T:T:T

just realised something... if she's charging poeple for food she's prearing in her house, shouldn't she have health and safety and the council's environmental health on her back?! and a license or permit?! perhaps someone should give the council a nod lol.
    And the tax office?

I'd love to think you were winding us up CG - or that it's April 1st???
Wouldn't go if it were me, not at any price.
Happy for guests to offer to contribute eg dessert or mince pies - but charge money? Definitely NOT!

This is the moment when you realize that some people are in need to reform their habits. And who knows may be they might set a new New Year Resolution in 2012
