Charging relatives for Xmas dinner
Comments
-
My brother and his girlfriend are hosting dinner for me and some friends. He's operating bring a cheese (not cheddar) and drink. I did ask if he wanted contribution towards the food, but they decided on that.
£30 a head is outrageous. If I were to ask for contribution for Xmas dinner it would be a small contribution, food or money! But that would probably be if loads of people were coming, and it's just me hosting it. I would never charge family if I offered to host it. I'm all about money saving, but not profiting from family!0 -

Totally get that, but ... her Mum must be prepared to pay it or she wouldn't go?
If I were 80yo and it was a toss up between hosting dinner for the family or paying £30 to be wined, dined and see the family ... I'd be thinking £30 is a small price to pay for the least hassle. What's the alternative? Being alone?
Either way, it really isn't worth you busting a blood vessel in anger over
It clearly works for this particular family you are posting about - even if it isn't a recognised "norm" for the majority
The reason I posted was cos the 80 year old isn't happy with it, and I wanted to know others peoples opinions on it.I'm not busting any blood vessels don't worry;):D"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

I suspect no one is busting any blood vessels, just discussing whether we feel it is acceptable. Without discussion then this would make for a somewhat dull forum.

It's quite normal to share things in a family, you are the host and still doing the bulk of the work I would imagine.mummyroysof3 wrote: »we have my inlaws coming for christmas dinner..i havent charged them but they are bringing the stuffing, crackers, pudding and cream and her own wineValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
