Lol, so many folk on here can't see beyond their nose. Yes, it was only two pounds, but in principle I can see OP's view and I do think Game's policy was silly here for what it would have cost them to just refund £2 back to OP's payment method.

Oh and just LOL at anyone on here pretending they care about the bottom line profit of any retailer. Everyone is out to get the best deal they can, especially in these economic times.

I assume it was something along these lines:

    1. Buy a product from Game Online.
    2. The following day you see an advert for the same game and same retailer next day for cheaper. (regardless of how much)
    3. give them a quick call and explain ask them to knock the difference off your purchase.
    4. They refuse.
    5. You tell them that you will return the game to them out of principle and within your rights.
    6. They still stick to rules.

So the retailer loses the sale, they now have the hassle of returned stock and they will also now be seeling that same game at the reduced price anyway. Also because of the poor customer service OP recieved they are now taking their business elsewhere. Just seems a silly way to do business IMO.

It's not about the cost, it's about all the above. I don't blame OP at all.

Please please please don't now start with ridiculous Petrol analogies :)

I'm quite surprised they offered you freepost to be honest, they don't have to. Did they send you a freepost envelope out?

BTW have you actually physically received your refund from Game yet?

I know it's only £2, but I guess it's a principle thing. Are all you guys saying you wouldn't have done the same if the price drop was more significant?

It would depend how much of a drop we were talking and if the item could actually be returned, factor in my time calling teh compnay to request a refund and going to the PO to send it back. For £2 i wouldnt have bothered

Would have to be at least £5 before I stood in a queue at the PO at this time of year. That's half an hour of your life you'll never get back.....each to their own though
  • I wouldn't waste my own time trying to get two quid back. And I wouldn't embarass myself arguing with customer services over such a trivial amount of money.

Why not exercise your consumer rights? It all adds up over time.

I also think you have to excercise some common sense. If you buy something one day and then it drops in price the next, then as long as you aren't too bothered about the hassle, make sure you get it at the better price.

Obv if you buy something and 6 weeks late it drops it price it is just hard luck.

Most people on here are not bothered for the sake of £2, I guess it depends how strong your principles are.

All that said, OP's original post is that the policy is crazy and it is.

As I retailer myself I do care. I also care as a consumer, as the range of companies disappear, those remaining have more power to act how they wish at the cost of the consumer, the supermarkets are a prime example of this.

I went in BHS weekend before last and they had something I wanted at £20, went back the next weekend and it was £16, result. It will no doubt before £12 by this weekend but I'm not going back to argue the toss over £4, I paid my price at the time I wanted the item, done deal.

"So the retailer loses the sale, they now have the hassle of returned stock and they will also now be seeling that same game at the reduced price anyway."

Cheaper in the long run than lots of customers asking for refunds on price drops which happen with this type of product because consumers bounce from one retailer to the next to pick up the cheapest price, rather than stick with a good company with good service, and the companies react to this by dropping prices to match or outdo their rivals. Seems good now but as I say above the end result might not be so good.

No it isn't. If Game agreed to refunds like this they'd have every Tom, !!!!!! & Harry on the phone asking for a quid back every time a price dropped. Where would they draw the line?

Ok, so now say the first weekend you went to BHS and say the item for £20, but then went to Tesco and saw it for £16, would you have purchased it there and then? If so, how is that any diffrent?

Also, retailers are not disspaearing because we are chasing down the best offers or demanding difference in refunds, they are dissapearing because of the global economy and people's disposable income has rapidly declined in recent times

That's probably a good point re being cheaper in the long run, but ultimately that's something they can't control anyway because of our statutory rights as a consumer. They have to simply rely on people being too lazy/not wanting the hassle to return items or push for the difference.
