The cost of 10 lessons plus test is around £300 which is approx the cost of a fairly reasonable spec laptop! You are we had a lovely time a right laugh, no laptop bought no, all good:DOf course macs as in food:rotfl::rotfl: it is not the same but thanks for presuming, it was ab fab thanks, as for the driving lessons it has been assumed on here I am buying him 10 can you imagine 10:eek: no way he has had already 10 done, I am not buying him 10 each one is £20
I purposefully didnt assume anything I dont drive myself so hadnt realised how expensive lessons are these days my appologies for the mistake.
So glad to hear it all went well today, you enjoyed a meal out and you got things sorted all be it for now, enjoy it while it lasts until the next downer.
Kiplins 'If' poem comes to mind here (and I dont mean the Mr mince pie man).
:xmassign::xmastree::snow_grinFailure is only someone elses judgement.
Without change there would be no butterflies.
If its important to you, you'll find a way - if not, you'll find an excuse ! ~ Easy to say when you take money out of the equation!

Not sure the OP necessarily wants to be a man, though (-:
there's another version - "If you can keep your girl when all about you / are losing theirs and blaming it on you...."...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Xmas is now sorted thanks:j
Yep and I am sure you said the same about his 18th, and doubtless there will be more incidents next year.
Sorry to say the only reason he continues to be such a trial to you is because you pander to him and allow the behaviour. Having many discussions about the same thing is not being firm. One "no" and further "It is not up for discussion" should suffice to reinforce the message. Not reward him for being difficult by treating him to McDonalds! I can see you wanted a nice family day out and I respect that, but it is not doing you any favours.
I have seen the exact same behaviour with my brother and Mum so i do know what I am talking about. It was 6 of one and half a dozen from the other I am sorry to say.0 -
Just to pick up on this, when I said 50/50, I meant that an amount should be agreed (not with them obviously but your partner etc) and stick to it...both children should be treated equally, so by planning to spend £150 on your youngest, then that should be the amount that is spent on your eldest, rather than the smaller amount you had been planning to spend.
Quite right.
It was how I treated mine until they were out of full time education and into full time work.
Apologies for not reading the entire breast beating thread, and I understand it's all sorted (for the time being at least) but a few points popped into my head.
All children who are old enough to understand money should have presents of roughly equal value at birthdays and christmas (my only exception to this was giving each of mine a course of 10 driving lessons for their 17th birthdays - way beyond the value of any other birthday present) - and that should continue until they are working.
I can't understand why you couldn't tot up the cost of the younger child's present and offer that in cash, or offer to hold it for him and add to it on his next birthday, by which time it might be close to enough for him to buy a laptop.
Now that mine are working, I've brought the value of the gifts right down, but I still love to do a stocking for each, with carefully chosen items, sometimes second hand or homemade, sometimes just picked up in a pound shop, but all with some special significance for the person it's being given to. This year, I've bought a second hand bureau for one daughter and painted it shabby chic style, which although it took forever, it only cost about £40 in total, another has a first edition book by her favourite poet, which I had to track down in the USA and the third will be having a champagne afternoon tea at the British Museum. None of them cost more than £50 and all of them will get perhaps another £10/15 worth of stocking presents.
As for advent calendars, they all got one, like they always do, even the 25 year old. Tesco did a 2 for £3 deal on them, so it was no big deal.
Treat them the same and argue though they might, they haven't got a leg to stand on, you don't have to feel guilty and you can shrug off any abuse safe in the knowledge you haven't done anything wrong.0 -
