Hi everyone, as all of you I am at wits end with bank charges. Basically I have approx £1,000 of charges thru the Woolwich which I paid thru there collections department and then was told its best I close my account as it will be blacklisted and open a new one. Obviously feeling hard done by I closed it and didnt open a new one but believe from Martin I can still claim. I then opened a Abbey accoutn and receibed bank charges of £200. Didn't pay as felt they were unfair so they passed me to a debt collection agency and agreed to a repayment which I couldnt keep.(bullied into it) Basically this has resulted in me receiving a CCJ for the £200 bank charges plus their charges. I still cant afford what they want and have defaulted on this. As this is a CCJ and they are threatening baliffs is this still unfair in the light of them not being able to charge so much bank charges would I still have a case even though has got to the CCJ stage.??Any help would be greatly appreciated ..this is just pickling my brain too much now and stressing me out as have 7 days to come up with money I dont have???0

The stress these people cause is unbelievable and I urge you to stop worrying Right Now, stress kills.
Write to the debt collection agency, recorded delivery (costs £1) , informing them the account is in dispute regarding unlawful bank charges. Then get reclaiming following the template letters and timsecales. You can reclaim from both accounts good luck0 -
Please bear with me as this may take some explaining. Back in 2000 my husband's business went bankrupt at the same time he became ill. He was running a business account with Natwest. We had taken out a payment protection policy which would pay out £200.00 per month for a period of 12 months. When we tried to claim Natwest said that the policy has been cancelled. We asked by whom to which we received no response. Due to the policy not paying out his account went overdrawn and they then started applying charges (£3.50 per day) excess fees. We continued to argue our case without any satisfactory response. To date the account has now incurred approximately £3000.00 excess fees and is now in the hands of a debt collection agency. My question is can we try to reclaim the charges although the debt has still not been settled and we are only making small repayments each month. My husband is now permanently disabled and will not be returning to work for the foreseeable future.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.0 -

I just recieved a letter regarding a credit card which I haven't paid for nearly three years now! Of course they want their money back so I am making offers for repayments. The thing is I know I have previous charges on the card can I still claim them back even if I have not paid anything for three years and if the debt has been past on????
Any information on this would be grate, I really want to get this thing paid off and if i can reclaim my charges to help pay it off that would be fab!0 -
Barclays Bank closed my account about 2yrs ago because I had gone over my OD limit which they had been adding charges to. My account is now held with a debt collector, will I still be able to try and claim my charges back (I only shredded my bank statements about 6 months ago so I havent got them!) I would be grateful if anyone could advise me on this, many thanks mandab19750

You need to send the letter asking for your information/statements to the bank giving your old account number if you still have it, name, relevant addresses and date of birth for them to trace your account.
Its likely that any monies reclaimed will be put toward any debt owed to the bank.0 -
I remortgaged last year to pay of debts. These debts included bank loans and overdrafts all of which had incurred many charges, some were continuing to be charged whilst i wasn;t using them etc.
I paid off all debt, and agreed a settlement figure... I am unsure whether the figures that we agreed on were perhaps roughly the debt, less charges incurred.
I don't know if its worth pursuing these closed accounts... help...
For example, one account had £390 of charges in two months plus others which i can't recall. In the end £1073 was owed and they settled on me paying them £751
I guess this just makes it more complicated. Would it be wise to find out how much was charged, look at what i owed and then what i actually paid to find the difference.
Should i then only apply for the remaining amount? Resulting in my settlement figure being the actual amount that i owed, in which case i save no money for in some cases early settlement. Or go for the full amount of my charges in which case they may just tell me where to go.
Anyone else been in this situation - don't know what to do... Between me and my partner i could write off for 6-8 accounts...
